About Watersedge

Watersedge sleeps up to nine guests in four bedrooms and is a picture-postcard pretty thatched cottage in a wonderfully tranquil position in the Norfolk Broads overlooking Hickling Broad.

Offering plenty of space inside and out with a big sitting room for relaxing, dining room, modern kitchen, four bedrooms, two bathrooms (plus separate WC) and utility room, Watersedge is perfect for a family holiday and provides a warm welcome to all (including pets). Built some three hundred years ago, the cottage offers a lovely mix of character with original bread oven and some low doorways, sitting alongside modern day conveniences like fast WiFi internet access, heating and modern bathrooms.

Putting you right in the heart of this magical Broadland setting, you can wake up to the sight of Hickling Broad and enjoy every minute of it until the sun sets. Stroll to one of the two pubs in the village for a pint or meal out, or enjoy a picnic on the lawn or alfresco meal in the garden (rattan outdoor furniture provided). The owners have also kindly provided outdoor games for guest use like bowls and badminton, as well as table tennis, a rowing boat and mountain bikes.

A European Nature Reserve, Hickling Broad is a magnet for birdwatchers and offers an abundance of wildlife to spot whilst out exploring the waterways and countryside. The nearest reserve is just 15-minutes away on foot and run by the Norfolk Wildlife Trust; or head to the coast to see the seals at Waxham and Sea Palling (just 4-miles from Watersedge).

For those who can tear themselves away from the tranquility that surrounds Watersedge, the surrounding area offers plenty of opportunity for outdoor adventure. Try kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, fishing or hire a motor boat from Whispering Reads. Find out all about local life and history at Waxham Barn and the Museum of the Broads or visit Horsey Windpump (National Trust).

The city of Norwich also makes a great day out with its historic streets and castle; or head for some traditional seaside fun at Great Yarmouth - both approximately 12-miles away.

Location (The Norfolk Broads)

In an enviable position, all the principal rooms and the large front lawn enjoy glorious views across the water and reed beds.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

  • Large sitting room with comfy seating set around the TV with DVD player. A large window to one end frames the lovely views over the countryside and Hickling Broad beautifully.
  • Dining room with equally impressive views over the broad. A dining table seats nine and there is a door taking you outside to the garden.
  • Kitchen well-equipped for self-catering with dishwasher, electric cooker, fridge and microwave.
  • Utility room with washing machine, fridge and freezer. Off the utility room is...
  • Shower room with WC.
  • Cloak room under the stairs where you can store coats, walking boots and even dogs!

First floor

  • Master king-size bedroom with lovely views over Hickling Broad to wake up to.
  • Purple bedroom which is a triple room with double and single beds plus lovely views over the broad.
  • Yellow bedroom which is a twin room with two singles and more of those lovely views over the broad.
  • Eaves bedroom which is small and a twin with two single beds.
  • Family bathroom which is modern with a shower over the bath and shower screen.
  • Separate WC.

Outside: The cottage has a fully enclosed garden (dog and child proof) which overlooks Hickling Broad and has a wide drive where you can park three vehicles. There is also a garage which houses the table tennis (full-size) and oars for those who want to use the rowing boat. Sports equipment and garden furniture (including barbecue) are kept in the thatched summerhouse.

Additional information: Bed linen and towels are provided (please bring beach towels) and the price includes electricity, WiFi and heating. Three night (minimum) short breaks are available out of peak season by arrangement with the owner. Guests are welcome to use the rowing boat with life jackets (this is used at your own risk). Fishing from the banks or rowing boat is available when in season providing you have a permit which can be purchased from the local post office. For groceries, the nearest supermarket is Tesco in Stalham (4-miles away). A cot for babies and high chair available.
