About Widgeon

Widgeon is a wonderful barn conversion in a fantastic location close to the River Waveney and within walking distance of the Wheatacre White Lion pub. Light and spacious, it offers families and friends a laid-back yet luxurious place to stay while exploring the Waveney Valley, The Broads and the East Anglian coast. There is space for up to six people to stay in three bedrooms, with guests enjoying excellent amenities both indoors and out. The cottage is part of a working family-run farm, where there are seven other superb self-catering properties as well as facilities that include an indoor games barn and gym, outdoor hot tub and plenty of space to run and play. The 1,100-acre farm has dairy cows, free-range chickens and crops like wheat and barley. It is idyllic, and the owners have made it easy to enjoy with paths for walking and cycling with the possibility to borrow a bike if you do not bring one with you. Guests also have direct access to the riverfront for fishing, and there are two fishing lakes nearby as well as miles of beautiful countryside walks.

Beccles is only five miles from Wheatacre Hall Barns. Here, you will find an excellent variety of shops and places to eat and drink, as well as a popular farmers' market and a supermarket. The owners are happy to accept deliveries from Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Asda, so that you don't have the hassle of grocery shopping when you arrive.

Beccles Marsh is a haven for wildlife and is particularly beautiful in spring and summer when wildflowers are in abundance. The town also has an outdoor swimming pool, boat hire, a well-curated local museum, and a bell tower which stands proudly above the shops and houses. The medieval city of Norwich, once second only to London in importance thanks to a thriving wool trade, is around a 30-minute drive, with more shopping, eating and sightseeing choices.

As beautiful as it is, you will want to venture outside of the Waveney Valley to explore the stunning Norfolk Broads National Park, which starts just a few miles from Widgeon. Whether you walk, cycle or sail your way around The Broads, you can expect to see a plethora of birds and wildlife as well as enormous "big sky" views, the memory of which will remain with you long after your holiday has finished. The East Anglian coast is easily accessible as well, with Southwold, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth just a few of the beaches you can visit for a fun day out. Other local attractions include BeWILDerwood, Africa Alive, Pleasurewood Hills, several golf courses, skydiving, parachuting and go-karting.

The owners of Whiteacre Hall Barns are proud of the 5-Star Gold standard of their cottages and work hard to ensure guests can have the sort of holiday they talk about for years to come.

Location (The Norfolk Broads)

Accommodation Comprises:

Widgeon is one of three self-catering cottages created from a huge barn, boasting double height windows, oak beams and exposed brick walls as well as fixtures and furnishings of a very high standard. Accommodation is over two levels with the ground floor mainly open plan.

Downstairs:

  • Living area with leather sofas and a flatscreen TV with a DVD player. Glass doors open onto the private terrace and overlook the garden.
  • Dining table with chairs for six guests, conveniently between the kitchen and the living room to make socialising simple.
  • Very well equipped kitchen with high-quality appliances which include a dishwasher. The open-plan layout means no-one is stuck cooking in the kitchen and away from the fun, and parents preparing food can still keep an eye on their children. The cupboards and drawers have everything you need to self-cater, including plenty of storage for groceries.
  • Downstairs shower room with WC and handbasin.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with kingsized bed, ample storage and an ensuite with shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Bedroom 2 can have either a kingsized bed or two 2.5ft single beds depending on your requirements. Please let the owner know your preferred layout when booking.
  • Bedroom 3 has two full-sized single beds and a tall wardrobe for storage.
  • Family bathroom with walk-in shower, bath, WC and handbasin.

Outside: In addition to a private patio with a barbecue and garden furniture, guests have access to all of the shared amenities at Wheatacre Hall Barns, including games barn, soft play area, gym, hot tub and lawn area with lots of space for ball games (the owners can also arrange a visit to the parlour to watch the cows being milked). There is allocated parking close to the cottage.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets and towels are included, and the cottage has WiFi throughout. Woodacre is dog-friendly with one well-behaved pet welcome with prior agreement. A cot, high-chair and stair gate are all available on request. Smoking is not permitted.
