About Mallard Barn

Mallard Barn is a stunning self-catering property amidst the peace of the Norfolk countryside. With ample space for seven people, the three bedroom cottage offers a taste of country living and sits on a working farm surrounded by the River Waveney. Guests have direct access to countryside walks, bike rides and coarse fishing on and around the farm, as well as the opportunity to arrange a visit to watch the cows being milked in the parlour. The friendly White Lion pub is a 15-minute walk away, and with the opportunity to book Mallard Barn on its own or together with one of the seven other properties at Wheatacre Hall Barns, it is ideal for families, extended groups and friends.

All of the cottages at Wheatacre Hall Barns are furnished to the highest standard, more than justifying their 5-Star Gold Award from Visit England. In addition to the excellent facilities in the cottage, guests also have access to shared areas including a fantastic games barn, fitness area, outdoor hot tub and grassy areas for ball games and flying kites.

Wheatacre Hall Barns are in the idyllic Waveney Valley, close to the border of Suffolk and arguably the most picturesque region in East Anglia. There could not be a better place to go if you love beautiful views! Whether you are walking, cycling, horse riding or sailing, you will never tire of the stunning scenery. Try your hand at coarse fishing from the River Waveney that surrounds the farm or Aldeby Hall fishing lakes (only a mile from the cottage) and Fritton Lake (just a short drive away). The beautiful Norfolk Broads National Park is nearby, and if your kids are clamouring for a day at the beach then Great Yarmouth, Gorleston-on-Sea and Lowestoft are within an easy half an hour's drive.

Staying at Mallard Barn puts you close to some of the region's favourite attractions such as Africa Alive, BeWILDerwood, and Caldecott Hall Golf Course. Beccles, with its vibrant weekly market, is around five miles from Wheatacre Hall Barns, where there are plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a big supermarket and an excellent variety of independent shops and businesses.

Norfolk is a wonderful holiday destination. It has everything from scenic countryside walks to unspoiled beaches, peaceful rivers and broads, fantastic food and friendly people. You are never too old or too young to enjoy a holiday in Norfolk, and it's always the right season.

Location (The Norfolk Broads)

Accommodation at Mallard Barn is all on one level and comprises:

  • Open plan living area and dining area with glass doors opening onto the private patio and overlooking the farm's gardens which are perfectly complemented by the oak beams and furniture to create a calm, relaxing environment.
  • Comfortable leather sofas offer ample seating for ten or more people, allowing you to socialise with your family and friends if you are on holiday as part of a group. The dining table can seat up to eight guests with ease.
  • Fitted kitchen with high-quality appliances, including a dishwasher and plenty of storage. It is possible to arrange for delivery of your groceries from all popular supermarkets and the owner can help you arrange for outside catering if you are planning a special celebratory dinner or you simply don't want to cook.
  • Master bedroom with kingsized bed, fitted wardrobes, and an ensuite with shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Second bedroom with a kingsized (5ft-wide) bed that can be separated into two single beds if preferred. Please let the owner know your requirements when booking.
  • Three single beds are in the third room, which has furnishings and decor that are suitable for guests of any age. It is also possible to arrange for an extra (small) single bed for an additional cost.
  • Family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Convenient cloakroom with WC and handbasin.

Outside: Mallard Barn has a private patio with garden furniture and a barbecue. There is parking close to the cottage. The barn is part of a working farm with footpaths and cycling routes leading around the 1,100 acres where dairy cows and free-range chickens are raised together with a mix of arable crops. If you are interested, the owners can arrange a tour of the milking barns, as well as bike hire.

Additional Information: All utilities, including WiFi, bed linen and towels are included in the price. Cots and highchairs are available on request - please ask when booking. One well-behaved pet is welcome for a weekly surcharge. Smoking is not permitted.
