About Running Hare Barn

Running Hare Barn is as dog-friendly as they come, with the owners allowing an unlimited number of dogs to stay for no additional cost. If your pets are a big part of your family then you won't want to leave them in kennels while you enjoy a holiday, but here is a destination you can all enjoy with miles of livestock-free trails and dog-friendly beaches all nearby. The house is a very comfortable thatched barn conversion with space to accommodate up to ten guests in five bedrooms, so it is ideal for extended families and groups of friends who want to explore the beautiful Norfolk countryside and coast.

Running Hare Barn is tucked away down a quiet country lane just outside East Ruston. Suggested walks include the six-mile loop from the village to Weavers Way and Stalham or the five-mile route along the river to Dilham. There are also good walks to Happisburgh Common and Briggate, as well as around nearby Trunch and Bacton Woods.

Winterton-on-Sea is a lovely dog-friendly beach where you can walk with your pets all year round. Horsea and Waxham are also great, but be aware of the restrictions during winter when the beach is a breeding ground for seals. The water at Sea Palling is shallow enough for dogs who love to paddle, while Cart Gap is typically quiet and ideal for those who do not like crowds. Both of these beaches have dog restrictions in place from May to October.

Running Hare has been renovated to a high standard to retain its many amazing original features while providing all the mod-cons modern day guests expect, including eco-friendly features. The barn has a sister property, The Old Piggery, which comfortably accommodates up to six people in three bedrooms. Accommodation Comprises:

Running Hare has a wealth of beams and character and enjoys beautiful views of the rolling Norfolk countryside. The barn is exceptionally dog-friendly with the owners providing dog bowls, beds, towels and throws for their four-legged guests to use during their stay.

Downstairs:

  • Open plan living/dining/kitchen with original brick walls and beams and lots of natural light and countryside views through the multi-aspect windows. Smart placement of furniture divides the space into "zones", but the area can also be used as one sociable place for everyone to gather.
  • The Atrium seating area has a double height ceiling and glass doors which open onto the patio and private garden, offering a quiet place to chat or read if others are watching TV.
  • Kitchen/diner with a fitted oak kitchen and loads of bench and storage space. A double Rangemaster oven adds that country-chic feel, but because it's electric it is a breeze to use. A full house needs a big fridge so the American style fridge-freezer will be put to good use, while the long dining table comfortably seats up to 16 people.
  • Storage room for drying boots, coats and wet paws.
  • King-sized bedroom with proper storage and great views. The ensuite has a double-end roll-top bath, walk-in shower with grab rails, WC and handbasin.
  • A second double bedroom and ensuite has a similar layout to the first, with equally comfortable furnishings.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom reached by a central oak staircase. The super-kingsized (6ft-wide) bed can be separated into two single beds if preferred. There is plentiful storage and a small sofa. An ensuite has a large shower with a rainfall shower-head, WC and handbasin.
  • Comfortable seating and a 65" curved TV/DVD and home cinema system that is perfect for family film nights, and the barn also has WiFi.
  • Family bathroom with bath, WC, wash basin and separate rainwater shower.

Mezzanine:

  • There are two mezzanine areas (one at each end of the barn) providing two bedrooms, each with original beams and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. A thick curtain provides privacy from the ground floor. One bedroom has a kingsized bed while the other has two small doubles.

Outside: The enclosed garden is dog and child-friendly, with secure fencing and a flat lawn area to play. The patio has garden furniture and a gas barbecue so that guests can make the most of good weather. A covered space next to the house has an extra fridge/freezer as well as warm water for washing dogs. There is ample parking for several cars and electric vehicle charging points.

Additional Information: All utilities, sheets and bath towels are included, with guests required to bring beach towels if they are needed. Running Hare Barn is next to but separate from The Old Piggery. However, the properties are linked and can be opened up to share space for groups of up to 16. The balconies mean the property may not be particularly suitable for children, and young guests should be supervised closely. As the barn is thatched, smoking is strictly prohibited inside the building, and guests should take extreme care if smoking outside. Double external doors allow wheelchair access into the property from outside, however, once inside, doorways are standard size. Travel cot available by arrangement. Unlimited dogs are welcome.
