Clover Cottage is a charming holiday home in Ambleside, perfect for you to escape on your own or with your partner for a beautiful self-catering holiday in the Lake District. The one-bedroom property is hidden away in the heart of the town, but you'd never know it as you relax in the peaceful garden, listening to the birds as you drink your morning coffee or pre-dinner drink. Shops, cafes, restaurants, takeaways and bars are just a short walk away. You're close to fantastic attractions and the beautiful walks that make the Lake District a favourite year-round holiday destination for millions of people every year.
Ambleside is a pretty town on the north shore of Windermere in an ideal location for exploring both the south and the north lakes. Streets are lined with various independent businesses selling everything from boat tours to baguettes. Don't miss a visit to the photogenic National Trust Information Centre in the 17th Century Bridge House. Built more than 300 years ago as an apple store, it is now one of the most photographed buildings in the national park, and you're lucky enough to be staying less than a ten-minute walk away. Ambleside's museum has a superb collection of watercolours by Beatrix Potter and photographs by Herbert Bell. Both hugely respected, these artists were instrumental in preserving the Lake District so that you, and future generations, can continue to enjoy its glorious beauty. The town also has a cinema, watersports centre, and sightseeing boat tours.
It's possible to have a fantastic walking or cycling holiday in Ambleside, even if you don't have a car. It's only four miles from the mainline train station in Winderemere and has good bus links to other parts of the Lakes so that you can explore far and wide. Favourite walks to Helvellyn, the Old Man of Coniston, Fairfield Horseshoe, and Scafell are accessible from town. You can walk to Troutbeck via Wansfell, climb to Post Knott for panoramic views over Windermere, or stay closer to home and the gentle beauty of the woods on Ambleside Common. Cyclists and mountain bikers also have an excellent choice of trails, including the Rydal Water Circular that goes via the Coffin Route, along the River Rothay to Loughrigg Tarn and Loughrigg Terrace, and the Flinty Grave Circular (best done in summer when the trails are dry).
The majestic scenery of the Lake District has seduced countless visitors. You'll happily fall head-over-heels for its charms. Clover Cottage has all the benefits of a central location but, being a former barn tucked away down a secret lane, is as peaceful as a rural cottage.
