Crummock Cottage at Foulsyke enjoys breathtaking views in three directions towards Grasmoor, Low Fell and the Lorton Valley from the house. The two-bedroom holiday cottage sleeps four people and is perfect for couples or families, especially those who enjoy walking and cycling, as both are readily accessible from the door. It's a wonderful choice for a self-catering holiday, with the award-winning Kirkstile Inn just ten minutes walk away for a traditional Sunday roast or a home-cooked pub meal washed down with craft ale.
Foulsyke is in a fantastic location. From flat, family-friendly lakeside footpaths to day-long mountain treks, it's all on the doorstep. The views are nothing short of magnificent, whetting your appetite for walking and cycling. The owner has thoughtfully provided information and maps of the local area so that you can plan activities to suit your tastes. Birdwatching, fishing, boating and wild swimming are also readily accessible. Despite its beauty and the wealth of footpaths and mountain bike trails, it's one of the quieter areas of the Lake District National Park, with fewer tourists and lots more space than better-known places like Windermere. Alternatively, simply sit in the peaceful garden and keep your eye out for the resident red squirrels and birdlife.
There is loads to do when out and about. Local footpaths include the lakeshores of Crummock and Loweswater or visit Scale Force or Holme Force waterfalls. Climb Low Fell from the back of Foulsyke or Melbreak and Grasmoor situated on the sides of Crummock Water. Further afield, you can explore Honister, the Borrowdale Valley, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. The owner is a keen walker and can provide more advice if you're running short of ideas. Mountain bikers can tackle the wealth of bridleways around the fells and valleys as well as the trails at Whinlatter and Grizedale. Road cyclists are also spoiled for choice. The cottage has secure bike storage as well as facilities for washing your bike and kit.
Local Lake District attractions include Wordsworth House, Honister Slate Mines, The Theatre by the Lake, Lingholm, and the Keswick Launches boat tours. There are stately homes and gardens, charming towns and picturesque villages united by their pride in being part of the Lake District landscape. Outside: Watch the birds and red squirrels in the garden as you relax at the picnic table in the shelter of the old walled sheepfold. The paved terrace enjoys splendid views towards Low Fell. There is secure storage and cleaning facilities for bikes - please let the owner know when booking if you'll need this.
Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included. One or two well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement and for a small weekly surcharge. A travel cot (no bedding) and a high chair are available - please request these when booking.
