Shorepark Holiday Cottage is a luxurious riverfront cottage in Glencaple in Dumfries and Galloway. It's a beautiful holiday home with a fresh, stylish atmosphere and charm that comes naturally to a property that started life as a simple fisherman's cottage 250 years ago. Having been extended and updated over the years, it is now a spacious single-storey home sleeping up to six people in three lovely bedrooms. Guests enjoy open-plan living, underfloor heating, uninterrupted views of the River Nith, and a location within walking distance of a cafe and the village pub, the Nith Hotel.
Glencaple was built in the mid-1700s as a port for Dumfries. These days, it's a welcoming community where visitors can expect a friendly greeting and lots of opportunities for hillwalking, cycling, golf, and fishing. Anglers usually do well off the pier and sea fishing is also popular for flounder and plaice. Birdwatchers and nature lovers will enjoy being close to the Caerlaverock National Nature Reserve and the Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, while those with an interest in Scottish history can admire the magnificent moated Caerlaverock Castle. Days out can include visiting attractions like Drumlaing Castle and Sweetheart Abbey, going to Sandyhills beach, or taking the kids to the Cocoabean Chocolate Factory and Moat Brae Peter Pan Centre.
Dumfries is a lively town. Its excellent amenities include a great choice of places to eat, drink and shop for groceries - everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Dumfries boasts one of the oldest bridges in Scotland, the beautiful arched Devorgilla Bridge built to span the River Nith in the 1400s. The town also has links to Robert the Bruce, JM Barrie and, most famously, Robert Burns who spent his last years in a house that is now a museum dedicated to his life and works. Other towns to visit include Kirkcudbright, known for its galleries, the gourmand's delight that is Castle Douglas, and Wigtown with its plentiful booksellers.
Shorepark Holiday Cottage is available for bookings all year round with short breaks possible between November and April, depending on availability.
