Janevale is a welcoming holiday cottage on St Mary Street in Kirkcudbright. It's absolutely charming, sleeping six people in three-bedrooms with excellent self-catering facilities for families. You're only one street back from the magnificent River Dee and Kirkcudbright Bridge and a leisurely 5-10 minute walk from shops, tea rooms, bars and restaurants. It's a superb location for a self-catering holiday, especially if you're an angler, golfer, walker, mountain biker, or you simply want to soak up the atmosphere of the southwest of Scotland at your chosen pace.
Kirkcudbright is a wonderful word to roll around the tongue. It's pronounced "kir-coo-bree" and is a mix of Gaelic and Nordic words that translate roughly into the church (kirk) of St Cuthbert. Although there is a church dedicated to Cuthbert, the town is better known for its harbour, thriving community of artists and musicians, and great food sold at the monthly farmers' market. The harbour is a popular spot for sailing. Most shops and businesses are independent, owned and run by locals who take pride in their town. There are miles of footpaths and cycling trails starting from town and a golf course just 300 yards from the cottage. Outside of town, lochs, rivers, and the Solway Coast provide ample opportunities for your preferred type of fishing.
Plan your holiday around one of the region's exciting events: an annual food festival every October, the historic Riding of the Marches, the Galloway Children's Festival, a summer country fair at the end of July, a jazz festival in June and weekly Scottish nights in the harbour square over the summer. There is something for all tastes, whether you enjoy coastal walks, wild swimming, golf, antiquing, or visiting historic buildings and stately homes. Janevale is available for holiday bookings all year round.
