About Chesters

Chesters is a large holiday home on the outskirts of Dumfries in southwest Scotland. It's close enough to the market town's fantastic amenities for convenience, yet far enough out that you can enjoy lots of space, privacy and idyllic countryside views. Chesters sleeps up to 12 people in five bedrooms and has a layout that works well for extended families and friends. If you're looking for a big self-catering property where you can catch up with your cousins and their kids, celebrate a milestone birthday with friends, or get the family together for Christmas, Chesters is a spacious and comfortable option.

Dumfries is a favourite holiday destination for all seasons with beauty and charm that had earned it the nickname "Queen of the South". While there, you can cross the River Nith over one of Scotland's oldest multi-arched bridges, which dates from 1431. Robert Burns and JM Barrie spent time living in Dumfries, with Barrie taking inspiration from Moat Brae as a setting for Peter Pan. Market day is the first Sunday of the month, but it doesn't matter if you miss it as the town has a wide variety of independent places to shop, drink and eat. Kids will love the Dino Park at Hetland Garden Centre, while literary buffs can see the house at Ellisland Farm, where Robert Burns spent his final years.

Outside of town, the glorious Scottish countryside beckons with places like the Galloway Hills, Solway Firth and attractions like Drumlanrig Castle and country park for exploration and adventure. Walking and mountain biking are popular all year round, with mountain bikers flocking to the Mabie 7Stanes trails just a few miles from the cottage. Other places for a day out include Mabie Farm Park, Caerlaverock Castle and Wetlands Centre, Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, and Gretna Green.

You can't go wrong with a holiday in Dumfries and Galloway, especially when you stay somewhere as welcoming as Chesters. It has the ideal mix of adventure and relaxation, with lots of different types of attractions to appeal to every age and interest. Great food, stunning views, centuries of history and lots and lots of opportunities to spend time having fun with people you love in a great environment.

Accommodation Comprises:

Chesters is a big detached holiday home with private gardens, panoramic views and accommodation over two levels.

Lower Ground Floor:

  • Huge sitting room with sofas and armchairs where everyone can socialise, play board games, and watch a DVD or Sky TV channels. Glass sliding doors open onto the paved terrace and the garden, and there is lots of natural light.
  • Games room with a snooker table, sofa and doors that open onto the patio. A separate topper can turn the snooker table into a dining table for 12. Chesters is a great house for socialising.
  • Cloakroom with a WC and a handbasin.

Ground Floor:

  • A separate dining room with a formal dining table seating eight people looks fantastic when decorated for a special occasion like Christmas. Multi-aspect windows look out onto the garden and make the room feel light and welcoming all year round.
    Farmhouse-style kitchen with fitted oak cabinets, a modern range cooker, massive American-style fridge/freezer, and a breakfast bar with casual seating. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine, plus all of the equipment and utensils you'll need to self cater for up to a dozen ravenous guests. A hamper with tea, coffee, milk, sugar and cereals is ready to help you feel welcome and settled.
  • Conservatory with seating and far-reaching views.
  • Bedrooms One and Two each have luxuriously big super-kingsize (6ft-wide) beds, proper storage and incredible views. These rooms also have a tiled ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom Three is a lovely double room with tranquil views over the garden and countryside.
  • Bedroom Four is a spacious twin with two single beds.
  • Bedroom Five is a triple/family room with a double bunk bed on the bottom and a single on the top. There is also space in this room for an extra pull-out bed.
  • Big bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath, large walk-in shower, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: The garden is mostly lawn with a paved area near the house. There is ample off-road parking and lockable storage for bikes.

Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are all included. There is also an iron, ironing board and two hairdriers for guests to use. Smoking is not allowed indoors. The owner is unable to accommodate pets.
