About The Old Cheeseloft

The Old Cheesloft combines old and new to provide a unique waterfront holiday home in a fantastic location with 5* rating. There is nothing to mar stunning views of the countryside and Ross Bay - views which, on a clear day, can stretch as far as the Isle of Man, Solway Firth, the fells of the Lake District National Park and the Machars of Wigtownshire. The dog-friendly property is renovated to a high standard and offers self-catering accommodation for up to five people in three bedrooms, all just steps from the beach.

Ross Bay is peaceful and unspoiled - the ideal getaway for family or friends who relish the prospect of fresh air and beautiful views on a grand scale. The Old Cheeseloft is one of four wonderful properties on a private 500-acre farm, each of which enjoys a spectacular waterfront location and access to miles of breathtaking walks that lead to places like Miekle Ross, where your climb will be rewarded with views of Little Ross island and lighthouse. The beach is as fun for beachcombing after a winter storm as it is for relaxing in the sunshine on a long, lazy day in summer. Cycling is a favourite way to get around the area, where any delay to your journey is more likely to be caused by cows moving from one field to another than by a stressed-out commuter!

This part of Scotland is a fantastic holiday destination for any age as there is a wide choice of things to see and do. In addition to the beautiful walks and bike rides along the coast and through the countryside, visitors can saddle up and go pony trekking at Brighouse Bay or tear up the trails at the 7Stanes mountain bike centre. Nearby are golf, gardens and galleries to enjoy, and nature reserves and forests where birds and wildlife thrive in the protected surroundings. Maybe it's the fresh air or the clean water, but the locally produced food and drink are second to none, and it will be a pleasure working up a hearty appetite knowing there is a delicious meal to enjoy afterwards!

Ross Bay is a magical place where time slows down, and you can relax in beautiful surroundings with people you love. The area is quiet but full of promise whether you choose to challenge yourself to do something different every day or you move no further from the cottage than to a beachfront bench in the garden and watch the world go by.

Location (Dumfries and Galloway)

Accommodation Comprises:

Accommodation at The Old Cheeseloft is over two levels, with the living areas downstairs and the bedrooms on the first floor. The former farm building has been converted to a high standard with the focus firmly on comfort and style. The owners provide thoughtful extras like non-perishable essentials and some toiletries, and guests are welcomed with cake and a freshly boiled kettle so they can enjoy a hot drink and settle in straight away.

Downstairs:

  • Parking next to the cottage, so it is easy for guests to pull up and walk straight into the house, entering via a hallway that has plenty of space for hanging coats and storing wellies and hiking boots. An oak staircase leads upstairs, or follow the hall through to one of two relaxing living rooms.
  • "Snug" reception area with a leather sofa and a flatscreen TV. A glass door opens onto one of the house's two balconies, and both the balcony and the window seat enjoy lovely views across the sea towards Mielke Ross.
  • Second sitting room, "Idle Tides" that is welcoming and cosy thanks to deep raspberry coloured walls and a multi-fuel burning stove. It is the larger of the two reception rooms, with chairs that recline so you can settle back and watch a DVD, or make good use of the books, magazines and board games the owners thoughtfully provide for guests.
  • Modern kitchen/diner with good quality appliances and ample storage. Guests can pre-order shopping from Asda or Tesco, and the owners are happy to take delivery of food in advance of your arrival.
  • Oak dining table in front of a window with more amazing views.
  • Tiled shower room with WC, handbasin and walk-in shower.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a king-sized bed and uninterrupted views of Ross Bay. The ensuite has a shower, WC and handbasin.
  • Second bedroom with twin beds and sea views.
  • Single bedroom at the rear of the house, overlooking the enclosed garden.
  • Family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, WC and vanity with handbasin.

Outside: The Old Cheeseloft has an enclosed garden at the rear of the property, with a patio area, barbecue and garden furniture, while the front door opens to a grassy area that leads directly to the beach.

Additional Information: Apart from beach towels, everything is included, with the owners providing sheets, towels, utilities except fuel for the log burner. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement from the owner, who offers discounts for parties of fewer than five people. Smoking is not permitted. Short breaks available (Monday to Friday and Friday to Monday) by arrangement. A welcome cake (as well as locally made ice cream) awaits your arrival.
