Living
Our 3 bedroom single storey house, formerly a farm worker's cottage, has been renovated to provide comfortable, modern self catering accommodation. We have been welcoming guests since 2011, with many repeat visitors. The owner lives next door at Priestlands Cottage, so is on hand to help if needed during your stay. Other houses are close by, but not too near. You can have your privacy, but you won't feel remote and isolated.
On the A710 Dumfries to New Abbey road, Priestlands Bungalow is in an ideal central location for enjoying all that the region has to offer. Dumfries town centre is a ten minute drive, short bus ride or 25 minute walk away and there is an easy drive to a choice of supermarkets (one 24 hours). A newspaper and convenience store is within a 10 minute walk or a couple of minutes drive of the cottage. We are just a few minutes drive from the A75, the main route through Dumfries and Galloway, well placed for journeys across the region. Within half and hour or less you can reach the Solway Estuary and varied coastline, local RSPB and WWT bird reserves, historic sites at New Abbey and Caerlaverock Castle and two adventure/animal parks for children. There are two golf courses in the town, one a five minute drive away and another on the coast within half an hour. The award winning world class mountain biking trails at Mabie Forest (part of the 7 Stanes) are just 10 minutes away and the Dalbeattie trails are close by too. Further afield there are more mountain biking facilites at Ae forest, Glentrool forest and Kirroughtree near Newton Stewart.
Unspoilt Dumfries and Galloway has so much to offer for a relaxing break in peaceful surroundings away from the crowds. Visit rural attractions, gardens, historic sites, beaches, the towns of Moffat, Castle Douglas (the Food Town), Kirkcudbright (the Artists Town) and Wigtown (Scotland's Book Town) in the far west. Whether you love walking, golf, fishing, cycling or motorcycling on quiet roads, mountain biking, genealogy, archaeology, wildlife watching, pottering about in small towns and fishing harbours, eating and drinking or just relaxing, you can find something to suit you here, whatever the weather or the time of year. Rolling countryside, hills and lochs, rivers and forests and an extensive coastline present a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages. You can enjoy the region's rich heritage in our castles, archaeological sites and treasures, museums and historic connections with Robert the Bruce. The thriving arts scene builds on our links with Robert Burns, JM Barrie and the Glasgow Boys. Dumfries, the 'Queen of the South', and our small, friendly towns in the region cater for your shopping needs and activities for wet weather days. There is a great choice of locally produced beef, lamb, seafood, smoked goods, ice cream and chocolate – enjoy it in our restaurants, pubs and cafes or buy it to cook yourself from farm shops and good local stores. There is something happening all year round – arts and music festivals, agricultural shows, sporting events, cultural and craft activities, car rallies, cycle races to name a few.
