Auld Schoolhouse is situated in the quiet coastal cottage of Sandhead, only a stone's throw from 7 miles of sandy beach. It is ideal for children and pets who just want to chill out out or splash about on the beach. Also an idea base to explore the local area with its variety of sandy beaches and rocky coves on the Rhins of Galloway peninsula, stretching down to the Mull of Galloway lighthouse, the most southernly point in Scotland. There are a variety of gardens, including Logan Botanic, Glenwhan & Castle Kennedy, to mention a few.
The village of Portpatrick, with its good selection of pubs, restaurants and picturesque harbour is only 15 minutes drive from Sandhead, also Stranraer is only 15 minutes drive and has a selection of supermarkets and swimming pool.
There are 3 golf courses in the area, all of which welcome visitors, also a Bowling Green in Sandhead and Portpatrick (or putting in Portpatrick)
You can charter a boat from Drummore or Portpatrick for fishing or sightseeing.
