Driftwood Lodge is near the beautiful Cornish harbour town of Fowey, in the grounds of the Trenython Manor Spa Hotel. Guests have all of the space and privacy of a self-catering cottage with the benefit of full, free access to the hotel's excellent facilities that include a gym, heated indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, spa treatments (bookable at an additional cost), gardens, restaurant (with a takeaway service) and a bar. The two-bedroom cottage can sleep up to four people and is a favourite with couples, families and friends.
The Fowey Estuary is glorious at any time of the year. It sits beside the River Fowey, which winds its way from Bodmin Moor and empties into the English Channel. Sightseeing and fishing cruises leave from the harbour or book a boat, kayak or paddleboard to explore the harbour and estuary at your own pace. Local businesses offer guided adventures and lessons in sailing, giving you every opportunity to enjoy this beautiful region from both the land and the water.
Visitors who would rather keep their feet dry can play golf, go horse riding or stretch their legs on one of the region's many footpaths. The circular route from Fowey to Poldrimouth is just under five miles, or you can catch the ferry from Fowey to Polruan and walk along the coast to Lantic Bay, packing a picnic for a day on the soft sandy beach. Other destinations include Polkerris, the climb to Gribbin Head, and Readymoney Cove where there is a clifftop Tudor castle and sandy beach.
In addition to its beaches and footpaths, the area around Fowey has a network of cycling routes with gorgeous views. Take the foot-passenger ferry from Fowey to Polruan before following the coast around to Sclerder Abbey or inland to Herodsfoot, Dobwalls and St Neot. Bodmin Moor is 10 miles north of the cottage, while the Eden Project is less than half an hour by car.
Local attractions include the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum, Bodmin Gaol, the Luxulyan Valley, Lanhydrock, the Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Towns and villages around South Cornwall have a yearly calendar full of fun festivals that celebrate everything from sailing to art, music and food, as well as events like Christmas markets.
Driftwood Lodge is perfect for a holiday at any time of the year as there is so much to see and do. Whether you're the type of person who fills their day with activity and adventure, or you'd rather lift nothing heavier than a gin and tonic all holiday, you'll find what you're looking for here.
