Pen Isa'r Llan Holiday Cottage is a pretty period cottage in a gorgeous location in Snowdonia National Park. It is on a private farm on the outskirts of Bala, the adventure capital of Wales, giving guests easy access to some of Britain's most spectacular landscape that includes Snowdon, Wales' highest peak. The cottage sleeps up to four people in two charming bedrooms and is ideal for couples and friends as well as families. Shops, cafes and welcoming pubs like the White Lion are all about a mile from the cottage, and easy to walk or cycle to if you prefer not to drive.
Bala is perfect for a holiday in every season. There is something for everyone, no matter how active or adventurous they are. One of the easiest ways for anyone to enjoy the scenery is on foot, and there is a wealth of footpaths of varying levels of challenge, from the smooth-surfaced wheelchair and buggy-friendly routes to strenuous rocky mountain trails. Wales biggest natural lake, Llyn Tegid, is only five minutes from the cottage. At four miles long and a mile wide, there is plenty of space for wild swimming, sailing, kayaking and canoeing. The lake is a favourite spot for landscape photographers and is also popular with anglers for game fishing. The nearby River Tryweryn has consistently ideal conditions for white-water rafting, as does the River Dee near Llangollen.
Mountain bikers love Snowdonia for the incredible trails like those at Coed-y-Brenin, Llandegla, and Yr Afon. You can arrange bike hire in Bala or Llandegla, and the cottage has secure bike storage for guests who bring their bikes with them. Other adrenaline-fuelled activities nearby include gorge walking, zip-lining, abseiling, mountain climbing, caving and canyoning.
Barmouth beach is only a 40-minute drive from the cottage, so a day at the seaside is as simple as packing a picnic and loading up the car. Harlech, Black Rock Sands and Tywyn are also within easy reach, or head north-west to Porthmadog and the spectacular Llyn Peninsula.
Attractions in the Snowdonia National Park include Snowdon and the Snowdon Mountain Railway, Caernarfon Castle, Conwy Castle, the colourful village of Portmeirion, heritage steam railways, slate mines, and waterfalls. Climb Cader Idris, or any of the peaks in the Aran, Arenig or Berwyn mountain ranges, the latter of which is visible from Bala.
Pen Isa'r Llan Holiday Cottage is private and self-contained and can be booked on its own or together with the nearby farmhouse, which sleeps up to 17 people. Please contact the owner for more information.
