Ty Mawr means "big house" in Welsh, and this beautiful holiday home certainly lives up to its name. The spacious, dog-friendly property sleeps eight people in four bedrooms and is ideal for big families who enjoy having the room to spread out. Ty Mawr is in the quiet village of Pentrefelin, conveniently located between the beautiful beaches of the Llyn Peninsula and Cardigan Bay and the dramatic landscape of Snowdonia National Park. The views from the house and grounds are incredible, and just one of the many reasons you'll love your holiday here.
Pentrefelin is only two miles from Criccieth's beach, castle, shops and other amenities, and around half an hour's walk from Morannedd beach. The owners run the Eisteddfa Fishery, where guests staying at Ty Mawr receive a 50% discount if they book the accommodation directly with the owners. There are gorgeous footpaths and cycling routes including via the Wales Coastal Path to Porthmadog and Portmeirion, as well as mountain bike trails in Coed y Brenin approximately half an hour’s drive from the cottage. Head east, and you'll quickly find yourself in the foothills of the mountains, where countless people hike, climb and mountain bike every year.
Within half an hour's drive, you can be gazing awe-struck at the towering walls of Caernarfon Castle, climbing aboard the Victorian Snowdon Mountain Railway at Llanberis, or gearing up for excitement and adventure at Zip World Slate Caverns and Bounce Below. Closer to home, pretty Portmeirion, Porthmadog, and the terminus of the heritage Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways are around a 15-minute drive. Visit the nearby village of Llanystumdwy, where there is the Dwyfor Rabbit Farm and Animal Park and a museum dedicated to the life of former Prime Minister, Lloyd George. Active families can have fun at Glasfryn Parc and Talhenbont Hall.
Ty Mawr can be booked with Bwthyn Bach, a small cottage next door sleeping two in a ground floor bedroom. There are two other impressive holiday homes on-site - Eisteddfa sleeping 10 people and Glas y Dorlan sleeping four. Depending on availability, they can be booked together to accommodate groups of friends and extended families. Please see the owner's website for information.
