About Moelwyn View Cottage

Moelwyn View Cottage provides the ideal holiday get away. It is located on the edge of Llan Ffestiniog, a quiet village sitting in an elevated position above the Dwyryd Estuary. Due to its central location you are within easy reach of all the major tourist attractions within Snowdonia National Park. This stone cottage is full of character and was renovated by the owner in 2019. It is a lovely place to return to at the end of day, providing cosy holiday accommodation for couples, a small family or friends. Conveniently located within walking distance is the local pub ‘Y Pengwern’ and Ffestiniog village shop. There are two bedrooms, a wood-burning stove and stunning views of the Moelwynion Mountain range and the Manod Hills. A rear garden with a seating out area means you can enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine while admiring the view. The garden is secure with a gate leading to an access road behind.

There are walks and bike rides directly from the village and within a few miles some great swimming spots. A long distance walking trail called the ‘Snowdonia Slate Trail’ passes the front door of the cottage, so a section of it can be walked in either direction. Other local walks from the village go to beauty spots such as the Cynfal Falls. Three miles away, in Blaenau Ffestiniog is the mountain bike centre of Antur Stiniog with more trails at Coed-y-Brenin, Penmachno Forest and the Marin trail near Betws y Coed. The cottage is also in a fantastic location for the coast, as only a 20 minute drive from the beaches of Harlech and Porthmadog. Porthmadog has the famous ‘Cob’ and is also home to the Welsh Highland Railway. Within easy reach as a day trip is the Llyn Peninsula, Barmouth, Aberdyfi or Caernarfon castle. A ride on the Ffestiniog or Welsh Highland steam train and a visit to the Italian themed village of Portmeirion are often rated as trip highlights.

Blaenau Ffestiniog is the nearest town for food shopping. It has great amenities for visitors and is home to the Llechwedd Slate Quarry, Zip World, Bounce Below and the Ffestiniog Railway. Beddgelert and Porthmadog are a short drive away and both offer more shopping and eating out opportunities. There are some excellent pubs a few miles from the cottage.

The owner of this holiday accommodation has worked hard to create a cosy space where guests can relax and feel at home. If you are searching for a peaceful holiday with numerous options to indulge in outdoor activities, or simply want to relax and explore Snowdonia National Park, you'll find Moelwyn View Cottage the ideal base.

Location (Snowdonia)

Accommodation Comprises:

Moelwyn View Cottage is a period property dating from the 1860s when it was built to house the families of men working in the local slate quarries. The current owner has sympathetically but extensively renovated the cottage, keeping original features while updating and modernising the property. Accommodation is over two levels.

Downstairs:

  • Cosy sitting room with original slate floor, log burner in the original inglenook fireplace, smart TV with a DVD player, books and games for guests to enjoy during their stay. The cottage has WiFi and most mobile networks get a good signal.
  • Separate dining room with beautiful mountain views, original wood floor and a decorative Victorian fireplace.
  • Kitchen/dining room in a rear extension with windows looking out on to the Moelwyns and the Stwlan Dam. The kitchen is very well equipped with quality appliances that include an electric cooker, induction hob, integrated fridge with small freezer compartment, coffee pod machine, washing machine and a tumble dryer. The dining table seats three.

Upstairs:

  • Master bedroom with views onto the Manod Hills, a double bed, wardrobe and a chest of drawers.
  • Second bedroom with a single bed, chest of drawers and a window with mountain views.
  • Spacious bathroom with an elegant tiled floor, freestanding roll top bath, shower and a WC.

Outside: Garden to the rear with seating and a gate to the lane so you can bring bikes in to wash and store them (bike storage available on request). There is normally space to park on the road in front of the cottage but the village has a carpark only a short walk away.

Additional Information: WiFi, utilities, bed linen and bath towels are provided, as is an initial supply of logs for the wood burner. The owner accepts children over the age of 12 years old. One well-behaved dog welcome with prior agreement (with a second by arrangement with the owner). Please bring your own dog bedding, furniture coverings and towels (dogs are not allowed upstairs). Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises. For new bookings, a refundable 'good housekeeping bond' of £100 will be added to the final booking amount and this will be refunded after the cottage has been checked for any damage or additional cleaning incurred during the stay.  Please note that the cottage is only available for weekly bookings from April to September. Please do not inquire for short breaks during this period.
