About Aeolian

Aeolian is in a sensational location in the seaside town of Criccieth, with loads of period Victorian features and unbeatable views of Criccieth Castle. Stay just steps from the beach in this wonderful holiday home, which easily sleeps up to eight people in four bedrooms and is perfect for families or friends. Shops, cafes and pubs are all within a few minutes' stroll and with Snowdonia National Park and the Llyn Peninsula nearby, you can easily explore this breathtaking part of Wales.

Criccieth was a favourite with stylish Victorians who knew that spending time outdoors in a beautiful landscape was good for the body and the soul. It doesn't matter what time of the year you visit because you will love spending time at the beach as well as discovering the nearby Llyn Peninsula and spectacular Snowdonia National Park. Criccieth Castle has sat proudly on the point between Criccieth's two beaches for almost a thousand years, looking out into Cardigan Bay. The promenade is a lovely spot for a walk, especially if you're lucky enough to witness the antics of the local dolphin pod often seen splashing around in the bay.

The Wales Coast Path passes through the town. It's an excellent choice for a walk in all but the worst weather, taking hikers to places like Pwllheli and Morfa Bay. There's a four-mile circular route that takes in some of the coastal footpath before turning inland along the Dwyfor river to Llanystumdwy where WWI Prime Minister, David Lloyd George, grew up and is buried. Other lovely local footpaths include the Llyn Coastal Path, the trail to Moel y Gest, and walks around Porthmadog and the decorative village of Portmeirion.

Attractions in the area include the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highlands Railway, Black Rock Sands, and the castles of Caernarfon, Harlech and Conwy which are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Snowdonia's hills and mountains are begging to be explored on foot, by mountain bike or any other way that takes your fancy, and there are loads of welcoming towns and villages with charming tea shops, welcoming pubs and independent shops and market traders selling all sorts of produce, crafts and other goodies.

Whatever your reason for visiting - whether you're celebrating a special event, milestone occasion, or taking the opportunity to catch up with extended family and friends - you will find Aeolian incredibly welcoming and comfortable.

Location (Gwynedd)

Accommodation Comprises:

Aeolian is an elegant Victorian townhouse where the owners have preserved many original features while sympathetically bringing it up to date with 21st Century comforts and conveniences. Accommodation is over three levels.

Ground Floor:

  • You'll know you've arrived somewhere special as soon as you step through the front door into the entrance hall with original arches, staircase and flagstones and lots of space for hanging coats and hats and storing boots and shoes.
  • Everyone will happily gather in the spacious sitting room where there is plenty of seating on three big sofas. Settle in for a family film night with wall-mounted TV and Blue-Ray player, pour a drink and pick up a good book, or relax and chat in the luxury of knowing that you don't have to get up for work and school in the morning. It's a lovely room for all seasons with glass French doors that open onto the sunny terrace.
  • Cook up a storm in the eat-in kitchen which is very well equipped with high-quality appliances that include a coffee machine, double oven and a dishwasher. The drawers and cupboards are packed with cutlery, crockery, utensils and equipment you'll need to cook for your family. The owners have included thoughtful extras like a picnic basket and blanket for summer days and a slow-cooker for warming winter meals with minimal effort. The dining area has a long table with bench seating, a wall-mounted TV and French doors that open into the private terrace.
  • Neatly tucked away behind a sliding door is a cloakroom with a WC and handbasin.

First Floor:

  • Ascend to the first floor where there are three bedrooms and a bathroom.
  • Big bedroom with zip-link beds that are set up as a super-king bed as standard but which can be separated into two full-size single beds if preferred. All of the beds have deep sprung mattresses for comfort and are made-up with bed linen of luxurious quality. There is a wall-mounted TV and seating area allowing guests to truly relax.
  • Second bedroom with two full-sized (3ft-wide) single beds, ample storage and blackout curtains that ensure you won't wake earlier than expected.
  • Bunk room with solid bunks that are ideal for children or teenagers but which are also big enough to be comfortable for adults. The vaulted ceiling and window shutters are stylish features.
  • Family bathroom with beautiful limestone and slate tiles that give it a contemporary feel that contrasts well with the age of the property. The walk-in shower has a rainfall shower-head, and there is also a heated towel rail, WC and a handbasin.

Top Floor

  • The entire top floor is given over to the master bedroom suite, making the most of the space and affording guests with views of the castle and sea views at the front and the rear. There is a super king zip-link bed (please let the owners know when booking if you would prefer this as two single beds), and a sitting area with armchairs and a large wall-mounted TV. An ensuite has a shower over the bath, WC and a handbasin.

Outside: A private terrace garden is at the rear of the house, with a picnic table and benches so that guests can eat outside in fine weather.

Additional Information: WiFi, utilities, bed linen and bath towels are all included. Guests to provide beach towels if they are required. Pets and smoking are not permitted. Short breaks are possible outside of peak season, depending on availability.
