Sentry Cottage is a character holiday cottage in Alnwick with lovely period features. It is wonderfully welcoming to couples yet spacious enough for families with space for four people to sleep in three bedrooms, secure bicycle storage, and off-street parking. Excellent self-catering facilities have earned it a 4-Star award from Visit England, reflecting a high standard of accommodation with all the features you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday in a location convenient for shops, bars, cafes and Alnwick's famous attractions. Guests of Sentry Cottage love how the owner has carefully integrated modern touches into the original Georgian fabric of the cottage, having all amenities within walking distance and being within easy reach of the stunning Northumberland Coast.
Alnwick has so much to offer in every season that, if it's your first time here, you'll wonder why you haven't visited before. Its castle is the town's most famous attraction, familiar to fans of Harry Potter films who can learn to fly a broomstick just like Harry. The Percy family have called this magnificent fortress home for over 700 years and their collections and Capability Brown designed gardens are spectacular. Your cottage is a stone's throw from Alnwick Gardens, with its slightly disconcerting yet beautiful Poison Garden and a wonderful Treehouse Cafe. Spend a happy hour browsing at Barter Books where shelves of adventures fill the old Victorian railway station.
Northumberland has seen more than its fair share of occupation having been occupied by Romans and Vikings, with the northern part of the county once being part of Scotland. Evidence of its history is everywhere including at Hadrian's Wall, Bamburgh Castle, and Whin Sill Crag. Every inch of the coastal footpath efforts a stunning view over rocky cliffs and soft sandy beaches. Seahouses is breathtaking and so big that it never gets crowded. It's also a great place to take a wildlife sightseeing tour to the Farne Islands to see puffins and seals. Other destinations for a day trip are Lindisfarne and Holy Island, Warkworth Castle, Chillingham Hall, National Trust Cragside, and Howick Hall and Gardens.
