Oystercatcher Cottage is perfect for a relaxing holiday on the beautiful Northumberland coast. The traditional fisherman’s cottage is a stylish haven, and the owner has taken great care to create an atmosphere that is welcoming, cosy and comfortable, with lovely linens, soft towels and a log burner to curl up in front of after that long walk on the beach which is just 5 minutes away from the cottage.
Seahouses is ideally located on this beautiful stretch of coastline where families like to return and enjoy the fresh air and space which is in abundance in Northumberland. Being so close to the coast means that guests at Oystercatcher Cottage are also near the Northumberland Coastal Path which stretches right up the Northumberland Coast and is very popular with walkers. The clean air and unpolluted waters make the Northumberland coast a haven for seabirds and wildlife, and one of the best ways to enjoy them is on a boat trip around the Farne Islands. You will almost certainly catch sight of the local seal population, either swimming around Seahouses harbour or when they come ashore to sun themselves on the Lindisfarne sand flats in the summer. Regular boat tours leave from Seahouses harbour (weather permitting), including special diving tours so visitors can explore the area’s shipwrecks.
Bamburgh Castle is an unmistakable landmark that dominates this stretch of coastline. It is three miles north of the cottage, and you can either drive, cycle or walk there via the coastal footpath. Another wonderful day trip is to Holy Island, 20 miles north of Seahouses. Although it is possible to drive there via an exposed causeway at low tide, you can also arrange a boat trip from Seahouses. There are lots of lovely villages up and down the Northumberland coast, so you may prefer to set out in the morning and explore at your own pace.
Seahouses has excellent amenities for visitors with some good restaurants and pubs serving local food. The old Ship Inn and the Black Swan are good local pubs and The Bamburgh Castle Inn overlooking the harbour has a good restaurant and Sunday carvery. For Italian lovers, Elan Pizzeria and Insieme are also good places to eat to name a few. Seahouses also has one of the UK’s oldest smokeries that is reputed to be the home of the kipper. You can ride a horse along the beach, play a round of golf or test your putting skills at crazy golf, or take the kids rock pooling at low tide followed by a fish and chip supper. There is always something beautiful to see or fun to do at Seahouses, whatever time of the year you visit.
