The Farriers is a lovely holiday cottage with space for up to six people to sleep in three bedrooms and an open plan living/dining/kitchen space that suits modern family living. It is one of a collection of beautifully restored and furnished holiday cottages on Annstead Farm, a 600-acre family run mixed farm. The beach is a short stroll over the road, and the cottage is only half a mile from Seahouses and Beadnell, so many friendly pubs and restaurants are also within walking distance.
Northumberland is famous for its stunning beaches and big skies. You would think that somewhere so picturesque would be packed with tourists, but, despite its breathtaking beauty, Northumberland never feels crowded. There is so much coastline - 30 miles of it - that there is more than enough space for everyone. When you include the extensive network of footpaths, bridleways and cycling trails of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it's possible to go for miles without seeing anyone else.
Those seeking it will always find adventure on the Northumberland coast. Swimming, surfing, fishing and kiteboarding are just three of many ways to enjoy being at the beach, where there is always plenty of space for a game of cricket or to kick a football. Send your adrenaline skyrocketing with a gallop along the beach at dawn, or challenge your skills on one of the half-a-dozen golf courses within a short drive of The Farriers.
Take a boat trip from Seahouses to the Farne Islands where thousands of species of birds, plants and wildlife thrive under the care of the National Trust. Visitors love watching the thriving colonies of puffins and grey seals, while bird watchers flock to the area in spring when migrating birds return. Another island to visit is the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Boat trips leave from Seahouses, but it's possible to drive across the causeway, though check the tide times before setting out!
Other local attractions include Alnwick Castle, which has been used extensively in the Harry Potter films and TV-favourite, Downton Abbey, and Bamburgh Castle. Northumberland has more castles than any other English county with others, including Dunstanburgh and Warkworth. Being an International Dark Sky Reserve means the Northumberland Coast AONB is just as breathtaking at night as during the day.
The Farriers is one of several lovely self-catering cottages on Annstead Farm which can be booked together to accommodate extended families or friends. Please see the owner's website for more information and to check availability.
