Hillberry is a delightful family holiday home a stone's throw from the mighty River Tweed in Norham. Guests love the peaceful village location within strolling distance of the independently owned Mason Arm's pub, a bakery, butchers, and the village shop, as they have everything they need for their self-catering stay within easy reach of the cottage door.
Hillberry is a beautifully presented bungalow sleeping five people in three bedrooms plus a folding bed to accommodate a sixth guest if needed. The enclosed private garden is safe for children and dogs, and there is off-street parking.
Norham is a historic village with lots to make it an excellent base from which to explore. As with many towns and villages in the region, its tranquil air belies a turbulent past, though the ruins of a magnificent castle will give you a hint! Now cared for by English Heritage, the castle is free to enter and is a 5-10 minute walk from the cottage. One of Britain's most beloved artists, Turner, stayed in Norham. The Turner Trail footpath takes in some of the views he immortalised in his paintings. Cyclists appreciate Northumberland's cycling routes which include national routes 1 and 68. Cross the river to enjoy some of Scotland's network of trails. The Tweed supports an extraordinary amount of flora and fauna, especially birds, and is considered one of the world's best rivers for salmon.
Berwick-Upon-Tweed is 7.5 miles from Norham and close enough to cycle if you don't want to drive or take the regular bus service. Berwick is the most northerly town in England (having also been one of the most southerly in Scotland) and boasts incredible Elizabethan town walls and a great choice of places to eat, drink, and shop. Take a sightseeing boat trip to where it joins the North Sea to spot dolphins and seals or go to the nearby Farne Islands for seals and puffins. Northumberland's beaches are spectacular, including the miles of sandy shore at Cocklawburn.
Hillberry has a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and is ideal for guests of all ages due to its lack of internal steps.
