Barn Cottage is a cosy seaside haven for solo travellers, couples, or small families. The owners, who also run the 600-acre farm on which it sits, have done a fantastic job of creating a welcoming, relaxed environment that feels like a second home. The location is perfect for making the most of your time on the Northumberland Coast, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with historic sites and a wealth of flora and fauna that makes it an excellent holiday choice at any time of the year. With the beach only a short stroll away and many friendly pubs, within walking distance, this cottage has everything guests need.
Annstead Farm is only half-a-mile from the popular seaside village of Seahouses, where you can buy delicious fish from local fishing boats, or stock up on kippers at one on the oldest smokeries in the country. There is a good choice of shops and other amenities, so it's the ideal spot to stock your holiday cottage kitchen. Half a mile in the other direction is Beadnell Bay. This horseshoe-shaped beach is a favourite with surfers, sailors, paddleboarding, windsurfers and kiteboarders, and you can hire equipment and take lessons from the local surf school. Beadnell also has bike hire shop to help you explore the fantastic network of cycle routes on the Northumberland Coast.
There is no shortage of things to do on your holiday. If you're an active person, then enjoy the many footpaths that meander along the coast or through the countryside. A favourite walk is from Seahouses to Bamburgh where you can work up a hearty appetite to satisfy at one of Bamburgh's cafes, pubs or restaurants. Horse riding is another excellent way to immerse yourself in this beautiful landscape or challenge yourself at Bamburgh Castle and Dunstable Castle golf courses, both of which overlook the ocean.
Bird watchers and nature lovers will never forget a sightseeing boat tour to the Farne Islands where seals, puffins, dolphins and other sea birds and animals thrive in the National Trust nature reserve. Alternatively, drive or sail to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne for wildlife and history. The gardens at Alnwick Castle are a lovely spot for afternoon tea or spend a day strolling around Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Barn Cottage is one of a collection of lovely self-catering properties at Annstead Farm. Depending on availability, these can be booked together to accommodate groups of friends or extended families.
