About The Granary Holiday Cottage

The Granary at Breamish Parks is a single-level holiday cottage sitting in a rural position surrounded by farmland just a mile from the Northumberland village of Powburn. With spectacular views over the Cheviot Hills and a lovely country setting, this welcoming holiday cottage sleeps two guests and is an ideal retreat for relaxing and discovering the beauty of Northumberland, the largest Dark Sky Park in Europe. The cottage is single-level so suitable for those who prefer to not climb stairs.

Perfect for couples, The Granary is an annex to the owners home but has its own parking and entrance so guests afford a good degree of privacy with the knowledge that the owners are close by if needed. Four Star Gold standard of self-catering, amazing views, spacious accommodation, WiFi, EV charging and a private patio (with more of those amazing views!) are just a few of the cottage's highlights.

Powburn village is just a mile away and sits in the picturesque Breamish Valley. It has a village store for forgotten provisions, petrol station, pub and a vet if needed. Sitting on the A697 people often pass through Powburn whilst travelling between England and Scotland and the village provides an excellent base for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Visit the market town of Wooler, a walkers paradise sitting at the foot of the Cheviot Hills; the picturesque town of Rothbury surrounded by spectacular countryside and Alnwick with its beautiful gardens, cobbled streets lined with independent shops and eateries, and spectacular castle that played a part as Hogwarts in some of the Harry Potter movies. The Northumberland coastline, protected as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is also within easy driving distance providing a wealth of gorgeous sandy beaches, amazing wildlife and attractions not to be missed like Bamburgh Castle and boat trips to the Farne Island and Holy Island.

Slightly further afield but still within driving distance are the attractive villages and towns of the Scottish Borders like Kelso - a lovely place to spend a day browsing interesting shops and indulging in fine dining. Alternatively, stay closer to home and enjoy the peace and tranquility that surrounds The Granary, with 60 acres of private farmland with grassland, woods and wildlife including wild deer and hares.

Accommodation is all on one level and comprises:

  • Sitting room which affords the best views in the cottage overlooking the Cheviot foothills (and also the owners garden). Relax on the 'stress-less' armchairs with foot stalls or sofa whilst marvelling at the landscape in front of you. There is a Freeview television, DVD player and sound system with CD player and iPod / MP3 docking. A cabinet stores local information on walks and attractions that the owner has thoughtfully provided and a gas fire provides a cosy ambience without the mess of a real fire.
  • The sun room also has amazing views and a small bistro table making it the perfect place for your morning coffee or 'sundowner'. A door takes you out to the patio
  • Kitchen which is modern and stylish with a good range of cupboards topped with granite housing everything needed for self-catering. Well-equipped there is a dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, fridge and freezer, eye-level electric double oven, gas hob and that all important coffee machine.
  • Stylish bedroom with king-size bed overlooking the patio garden. Outdoor table with chairs, sun loungers and BBQ are provided.
  • Bathroom with shower over bath (including grab rail), WC and wash basin. Towels and complimentary toiletries are provided.

Outside: Accessed off the sun room, the enclosed private patio is a lovely place to sit and soak up the sunshine and view.

Additional information: Pets are welcome at no additional charge by prior arrangement with the owner. WiFi internet access available along with EV charging. Central heating via a biomass boiler keeps the annex warm all year round. Prices include heating, electricity, bed linen and towels.

Accessibility: The cottage is suitable for those who prefer to not climb stairs but not wheelchair users due to standard size doorways and steps into the garden.
