About Ty'n Rhyd

Ty'n Rhyd is a delightful self-catering holiday cottage on the Llyn Peninsula. Its name means "house on the ford" and describes the scenic location perfectly, with guests enjoying beautiful rural views towards the sea and a peaceful outlook with no immediate neighbours. A perfect base to explore the numerous beautiful sandy beaches for which the Peninsula is famous. Stroll across the fields to Porth Ysgo, a hidden rocky cove (voted second best beach in Wales by The Times 2021), or walk two miles along the coastal footpath to Aberdaron's mile long sandy beach. The spacious house has an impressive 4-Star rating from Visit Wales and sleeps six people in three bedrooms, including two on the ground floor that may be suitable for visitors with limited mobility.

Aberdaron is a picturesque former fishing village on the south coast of the Llyn Peninsula and part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is well-supported by a choice of local shops with more amenities nearby in Pwllheli and Abersoch. The beach at Aberdaron is a long stretch of sand with plenty of facilities for visitors and is popular for kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. The two village pubs, fantastic fish and chip shop and cafes cater for all ages and tastes. The National Trust Visitor Centre and historic church attract many visitors. The inlets, rockpools and impressive views of the Gull islands make it a top choice for a walk in any season with direct access to the Wales Coastal Path. If surfing is your thing, the four mile stretch of sand at Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth), where there is a summer surf school, is a good bet. Boat trips take passengers to Bardsey Island (Ynys Enlli), giving them an opportunity to spot dolphins, seals and sea bird colonies along the way.

It's easy to park your car and forget about it when you stay at Ty'n Rhyd. The peninsula is small enough to explore widely on foot or by bicycle, with a waymarked coastal path stretching for 95 scenic miles from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. A favourite local walk goes from Aberdaron to Porth Meudwy, referred to by locals as Fisherman’s Cove, with the option to continue to the famous Whistling Sands of Porthor. Other destinations for day trips include Snowdon, Portmeirion and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Ty'n Rhyd is available for holiday bookings all year round with short breaks (minimum of three nights) possible outside of peak season, depending on availability.
