Caban Dyfi is a true escape hidden away on a steep hillside amongst the trees with a wonderful view across the estuary to the hills the other side. It lies just inside the south border of the Snowdonia National Park and is one of five similar cabins situated down a quiet cul-de-sac lane. Reached by a winding newly resurfaced private road, from which there are some lovely views, it is ideal for bird watchers, nature lovers and families wanting some quiet time together. Listen to the birds by day, the calls of the curlew and geese from the estuary shore or the owls at night! Badgers, woodpeckers, foxes and other wildlife can be spotted too! You can walk from the chalet along paths which lead into the hills behind and from where you can join the Panorama walk with its amazing scenery.
Aberdyfi, with its miles of sandy beach, harbour and village seafront shops is a short 10 minute drive away. Here you will find plenty of parking, the railway station for a scenic coastal ride, harbour and jetty, water sports, life boat station, a childrens playground, general stores, pet shop - catering specially for dogs, butchers, pharmacy, post office and other village shops and eateries.
Caban Dyfi sleeps 4 plus a cot in 2 bedrooms. (Please bring your own cot bedding.) There is a folding guest bed here also for if you want to squeeze it into the sitting room or conservatory. (own bed linen needed for this and you would probably want to fold it up out of the way during the day)
All bed linen and personnel towels are provided for 4 guests, but please bring your own beach towels.
There is a bathroom with a shower, washbowl and heated towel rail and the toilet is in a separate room.
The sitting room has a 2 seater sofa and armchair, dining table seating 4, a bookcase and desk with extra dining chair. A highchair is also available. There is no TV here giving you a complete break from everyday life and allowing you to enjoy the restful atmosphere of this tranquil hillside location. Instead there are books, games, puzzles and children's toys. A good phone signal allows you to access the internet for local information and weather forecasts.
There is a kitchenette to the rear of the sitting room and this leads through to a conservatory with further seating and a utility area with storage cupboards, a small undercounter fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and toaster.
The cabin is also supplied with kitchen hand towel, 2 tea towels, kitchen towel, washing up liquid, sponge/ cloth, toilet rolls and other general cleaning agents. There is an ironing board, iron and hairdryer.
PLEASE NOTE: the water supply here at Plas Panteidal now comes from a new hillside source but must currently still be boiled before drinking until the site has had new tanks and filters installed. We advise using bottled water and supply several litres ready for your arrival.
Outside there is a small fenced and gated (3ft high gates) garden area with flowers, shrubs, garden seat and table and chairs. To the rear of the chalet is a lockable shed for bikes and an outdoor tap. Steps lead to a higher seating area with more views across the estuary, further seating and picnic bench.
There is lots to do in the local area - sandy beaches, cave boat trips, steam trains, craft centres, lakes, wonderful walks and mountains to climb, a cinema in Tywyn and nearby leisure centres.

Caban Dyfi is one of a number of chalets and bungalows dotted around on the wooded hillside estate of Plas Panteidal, once the old Bishop of Bangors estate. We are found down a quiet cul-de-sac lane and have a lovely view across to the mountains the other side of the Dyfi estuary as we watch the tide's ebb and flo! Lot's of woodland birds visit our bird feeders here and badgers, foxes, birds of prey, pheasants, rabbits and squirrels can be spotted too.
Guests are welcome to walk around and explore this hillside location with its lovely views out to the estuary mouth from the far end. A short 20min walk into the hills behind (known here as the 'Dog Walk') opens up some wonderful scenery! There are some route cards and maps in the cabin.
Plas Panteidal rules request that all dogs are kept on leads when out and about on site and also on the nearby hill walks because of the sheep and lambs. Instead, down in Aberdyfi there is miles of sandy beach and sand dunes on which they can run! For any bits and pieces you may need, Dyfi Dogs, a small pet shop catering specially for dogs can be found there amongst the other seafront shops.
