About Milestones

Milestones is a beautifully presented Cotswolds cottage sleeping four to five guests. Nestling amidst the glorious rolling Cotswold Hills, Milestones is conveniently placed within easy reach of London (nearest train stations are at Kingham, Moreton in Marsh and Oxford Parkway which is just an hour from Marylebone), Birmingham (with its airport), Heathrow / Gatwick, Sheffield and Cardiff, making it a superb base for getting together with friends and family.

Ideally placed for exploring the many attractions of Central England, the cottage is available for three or seven night breaks from a Friday (two night weekend breaks are also available in low season), and four night mid-week breaks starting on a Monday.

Milestones sits in the Cotswolds village of Long Compton, in the southern corner of Warwickshire, perfectly sandwiched between Oxford's dreaming spires (twenty two miles) and Shakespeare's birthplace, Stratford-upon-Avon (seventeen miles and home to the Royal Shakespeare Company). Surrounded by glorious rolling hills within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Long Compton offers lovely walks, a small village shop for emergency provisions and an excellent pub, The Red Lion serving real ales and superb food - perfect for those wanting a night off self-catering (dogs and children most welcome in the pub).

The area offers an abundance of attractions for day trips out. Woodstock, the home of Blenheim Palace (Winston Churchill's birth place) is twelve miles away; Warwick's magnificent castle is twenty miles; the regency spa town of Cheltenham (with its popular race course) is twenty five miles; and the many pretty Cotswolds villages and historic market towns are within easy reach. These include Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Bourton-on-the-Water, Chipping Norton and The Slaughters to name just a few.

Spend your days browsing world class antique shops, boutiques and galleries; enjoy a long leisurely lunch in one of the many fantastic gastro pubs of the area; take a nostalgic trip on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Steam Railway; treat yourself to afternoon tea; wander around National Trust stately homes and gardens including Kiftsgate and Hidcote; take a tour of one of the areas breweries such as Hook Norton or the new local Cotswold Distillery; or lace up your walking boots and explore the Cotswolds or Shakespeare Way taking in spectacular scenery enroute.

There are also plenty of attractions for the younger ones with the Cotswolds Wildlife Park near Burford, Birdland Park and Gardens plus the Model Village in Bourton-on-the-Water, Adam Henson's Cotswolds Farm Park at Guiting Power, Gullivers Theme Park and the Snozone at Milton Keynes, and Cadbury World in Birmingham amongst the favourites sure to be a holiday highlight.

  • Well-equipped kitchen/dining area with cupboards stocked with everything needed to self-cater, electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, coffee filter machine and fridge/freezer. There is a small round dining table that can seat five and door taking you outside.
  • Utility room with Belfast sink and washing machine (space to dry outdoor gear).
  • Cloakroom with WC and wash basin.


  • Flexible master bedroom with super king-size bed that can be made up as a twin by prior arrangement, with en-suite shower room including a WC and wash basin. There is also room for a travel cot and a single small sofa bed that can be used for a fifth guest if required.
  • Twin bedroom with two single beds and an en-suite bathroom including a WC and wash basin (no shower).

Outside: There is a private enclosed garden with small lawn area and terrace with outdoor furniture (as well as an easy to use Gas BBQ) for alfresco dining. Off-road parking for up to three cars.

Additional information: WiFi internet access. Up to two dogs welcome by prior arrangement with the owner (an additional charge of £20 per dog applies). Prices include bed linen, towels, heating and electricity. Short breaks taken with three (or two during low season) and seven nights starting from a Friday, and four night breaks (or seven) from a Monday. A welcome tray is provided so that you can have a cup of tea/coffee and biscuits upon arrival, as well as a provisions pack with sufficient cleaning materials, soaps etc provided for the period of your stay. Long lets of up to a month are considered. Strictly no smoking in the cottage.
