91 Howells Mere entices you to stay at every turn. With the lake directly outside, four decks and balconies, and a private hot tub available for an additional charge, this four-bedroom holiday home on Lower Mill Estate feels very different from an ordinary family rental. It sleeps eight and works especially well for two families holidaying together or a family bringing grandparents or friends. The first-floor living space is made for long, unhurried meals: a generous dining table, a Neff-equipped kitchen, a wood-burning stove, and doors opening onto the outdoor seating. There's also a separate TV snug beside the kitchen, so children can choose a film without taking over the main sitting room. The top floor belongs to a king-size bedroom with air conditioning and its own shower room. On the ground floor, another en-suite king bedroom and a twin bedroom both open onto the rear deck; the bunk room has an optional trundle, subject to the agreed occupancy, and shares the family bathroom. A dog is welcome. Ballihoo restaurant is only a few minutes away on foot, while The Baker's Arms in Somerford Keynes is approximately a 15-minute stroll from the estate. An evening out need not involve driving.
Lower Mill Estate is the reason many families return to this part of the Cotswolds, and 91 Howells Mere puts its best bits close at hand. Complimentary spa access covers the group, including the 20-metre indoor and outdoor heated pools, eco plunge pool, sauna, steam room and gym. Treatments can be booked separately. Tennis and multi-use courts, play areas, soft play, and an Activity Hub for hiring watersports equipment are available, with delivery to the house available. The estate's 450-acre nature reserve offers lakeside paths and cycle routes, with opportunities to spot deer, water birds and, with luck, some of the more elusive wildlife. Direct lake access from the house changes the pace of a stay: paddleboarding and time outdoors needn't become a major excursion. Ballihoo takes care of meals when nobody wants to cook, and the nearby Pizza Shack is another easy option. It is a place where adults can enjoy the spa and children can stay busy, without every hour needing to be organised.
Beyond the estate, there is plenty to explore. Cirencester is a short drive away, with independent shops, good places to eat and the Corinium Museum's remarkable Roman collection. The Cotswold Water Park has more lakes and watersports to explore, while Bibury's Arlington Row and trout farm make for a very different afternoon. Families can visit Chedworth Roman Villa or head to Bourton-on-the-Water for its model village and Cotswold Motoring Museum. Westonbirt Arboretum is worth the journey for its woodland walks and seasonal colour; Tetbury is nearby for antiques and independent shops. A week of outings is possible, but hardly compulsory. That is part of the appeal of 91 Howells Mere: the house, lake, spa and activities give everyone choices, including the very appealing choice to do nothing much at all.

Four decks and balconies make the most of the lakeside position, including enclosed decking with seating for eight, a round sun lounger and a gas barbecue with gas provided. The house has direct private lake access and a hot tub on the lakeside deck, available for an extra fee. One private parking space is next to the house, with an overflow car park nearby. Private EV charging is available for an additional charge.
Additional Information: Up to two dogs are welcome by arrangement. Utilities, bed linen, bath towels, and Ultrafast Gigaclear fibre broadband are included. Guests to bring cot bedding and beach/swimming towels if needed. Smoking is not permitted indoors.
