Headmaster's House sits quietly in the peaceful Suffolk countryside, less than a mile from Southwold. It is a charming property providing 4-star comfort for up to four guests in three bedrooms. The layout, which features a spacious bedroom and shower room on the ground floor, is an ideal self-catering property for families and friends. You could, if you wanted, walk to the Sole Bay Inn, which sits under the Southwold Lighthouse, in a leisurely half an hour.
Southwold is as much fun for families today as it was in 1900 when Southwold Pier was built. The resort has been popular for generations and still offers the same bucket-and-spade appeal that your grandparents and parents may have enjoyed. As well as the sandy expanse of beach, Southwold attractions include the lighthouse, Adnams Brewery (where they also offer a make-your-own-gin-experience), and well-curated museums focusing on local life and history. Venture further afield, and you can take an exciting boat trip, explore the Maize Maze or test your swing on the 9-hole Southwold Golf Course.
We know that the British weather can sometimes be, well, predictable in its unpredictability, but as Southwold is a year-round attraction, there is always something fun to do. If it’s wet, browse the town’s boutiques or sit and enjoy a drink as you watch the rain lash against the window. There’s nothing as useful as a blustery cliff-top walk followed by a parcel of steaming, paper wrapped fish and chips to blow away the cobwebs and leave you feeling revitalised (the fish and chips on the pier are a real treat!). When it’s sunny, go crabbing, or step aboard the ferry between Southwold and Walberswick which is rowed by hand. There is also lots to see in the surrounding area, with Snape, Minsmere, Thorpeness and Dunwich all within easy reach and boasting their own unique atmosphere and history.
Although it is a modern property, Headmasters House has a timeless appeal, thanks in part to its beautiful location which provides the ideal compromise between the buzz of a seaside resort and the relaxed pace of the countryside.
