Fox Cottage is in Wortham Ling in the beautiful Waveney Valley on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. The holiday home was originally a simple cottage with two rooms but has been lovingly extended and renovated to sleep six people in three bedrooms. The layout works perfectly for families and suits couples and friends who appreciate the owner's stylish blend of period features, upcycled furnishings and contemporary comforts. Guests enjoy beautiful walks from the door, including routes to the River Waveney and the medieval market town of Diss.
The landscape of the Waveney Valley has changed little over the last few centuries. It's a scenic mix of farms, common grazing land, pretty villages and market towns. Walking and cycling are both favourite ways to explore, and you'll find a wide choice of routes to suit all abilities. Local footpaths lead around Wortham Ling and Wortham village, which has a busy village shop with a post office and tea room, to neighbouring Burgate, and Diss. Those who enjoy a more significant challenge can tackle the long-distance Boudicca Way and Angles Way footpaths. If your preferred walk is around greens rather than through woodlands or heath, the 18-hole Diss golf course is only a few miles away.
Diss is a wonderful market town with excellent amenities that will make your self-catering holiday easy to arrange. There has been a weekly market here for over 800 years, and you'll find a wide array of locally produced food and drink for sale on Friday mornings (or Thursday, if Friday is a public holiday). The town also has an excellent deli, a good choice of places to eat and drink, and a big supermarket. Stop by Diss Museum and follow the self-guided Town Trail to learn about Diss' history of wool and lace weaving. Or enjoy fish and chips on Fair Green where there is also a small play ground, then the kids can really let of steam on the huge play area by the side of the mere in Diss town centre.
Day trips can include shopping and sightseeing in Norwich, exploring the beautiful Norfolk and Suffolk Broads, and discovering why this stretch of coastline has been a favourite holiday destination for generations. Sail along the River Waveney, admire the gardens and take a ride on a vintage steam train at Bressingham, and take your pick of stately homes, specialist museums, and country parks.
