Badger Cottage is, according to the owners, the "perfect antidote to busy lives" and it's difficult to argue with their logic. The tranquil setting of a wildlife garden on the outskirts of Sweffling encourages visitors to breathe out and relax, enjoying the satisfaction of having nowhere else to be and no timetable to follow. There are wonderful countryside walks from the door, and the owner's award-winning pub, The Sweffling White Horse, is just a few steps away. The cottage comfortably sleeps up to four people in two bedrooms and is perfect for couples, families or friends.
The cottage has the twin charms of feeling secluded and remote while being just a few miles from friendly communities such as Saxmundham and Framlingham. Both places are great for stocking up on the essentials for your self-catering cottage holiday in Suffolk, although with several excellent farm shops selling local produce within walking and cycling distance (as well as a small but well-stocked shop in the village), visitors often avoid supermarkets and brand name shops for independent retailers selling fresh regional ingredients. Cook them in the cottage's well-equipped kitchen, make use of the owner's pizza oven in the garden or have a complete rest and eat at one of the local pubs or the cafe (a 10 minute walk across the watermeadow serving breakfast and lunch 6 days a week)!
Whatever time of year you visit, exploring the area around Sweffling is a treat. The natural rhythm of the seasons is evident in the landscape and visitors find themselves instinctively adjusting to fit what is going on around them rather than trying to bend time and nature to suit their schedule. The owners of Badger Cottage have a collection of vintage bikes to help their visitors explore far and wide, but even a simple walk will help to recalibrate your body and rejuvenate your mind.
The shingle shores of Aldeburgh are only 11 miles away while the sandy beach at Southwold is not much further. RSPB Minsmere is a favourite day out, especially in winter, while Snape, Woodbridge and Thorpeness are fantastic alternatives if you enjoy music, shopping and history with a touch of fun thrown in for good measure.
Sweffling is barely two hours from London yet a world away from the noise and pollution of the city. Stay at Badger's Cottage and discover for yourself why this beautiful slice of Britain remains a favourite holiday destination for all generations.
