About Combe Cottage

Combe Cottage sleeps six guests (plus baby in a cot) in four bedrooms and is a beautifully presented holiday home located on the outskirts of the Somerset village of Winsford, right in the depths of Exmoor's stunning national park. Offering the perfect mix of modern style and classic charm, guests can enjoy well appointed spacious accommodation with four en-suite bedrooms (two doubles on the ground floor for those with limited mobility) and open plan living, providing a lovely sense of space.

Furnished and equipped to a high standard, Combe Cottage is ideal all year round. During the winter months you have underfloor heating and a modern log burner to put a warm glow on the chilliest of winter nights. During the summer, the south-facing garden provides plenty of space (half an acre) to relax with spectacular views; and the spring and autumn colours can be enjoyed from the conservatory which affords a sunny aspect all day long. Both families and dogs (up to two) are welcome at Combe Cottage and the enclosed garden provides plenty of space for letting off steam.

Winsford is a delightful Exmoor village and a short five minute walk from the cottage. Here you will find Bridge Cottage Tearoom (fantastic breakfasts, lunches and cakes!) and one of the country's most photographed inns, The Royal Oak (dog and child friendly!). Dating back to the 12th Century with its pretty thatched roof, The Royal Oak serves excellent home cooked meals using the best of local produce, and fine ales. Adjacent to the Royal Oak is the village shop. With its unspoilt charm, village green and little stream running through, Winsford is often referred to as Exmoor's prettiest village, attracting walkers, cyclists and horse riders.

Exmoor National Park offers endless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts and has been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first in Europe. Spend your days cycling the lanes, canal tow paths and traffic free routes, or lace up your walking boots and discover Exmoor's many attractions on foot including Lorna Doone country, Dunkery Beacon and Tarr Steps. There's no better way to see the Exmoor ponies than in their natural habitat on nearby Winsford Hill and the Exmoor Pony Centre allows you to meet the ponies and also book to go trekking across the moor.

If you fancy something a little more leisurely, take a nostalgic scenic trip on the West Somerset Steam railway, or head to the coast for a day by the sea at Minehead (half an hour's drive). There are also lots of great attractions to visit with something for all ages including Exmoor Zoo, Wimbleball Lake Country Park, Dunster Castle and Arlington Court to name just a few.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

  • Open-plan living area with comfy seating, wonderful modern log burner, flatscreen Freesat television, Blu-ray DVD player, dining table with six chairs and well equipped kitchen.
  • Conservatory with a southerly aspect providing a lovely place to sit and soak up the sunshine and lovely views. Bi-fold doors let the outside in and provide access to the garden and patio area.
  • Beautifully presented, the fitted kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, oven, hob (with extractor over), microwave, fridge, freezer, plenty of cupboards for storage and a washing machine.
  • Dining area between the kitchen and sitting areas with table and seating for six (additional chairs are available if required).
  • Super king-size bedroom with plenty of clothes storage in the large wardrobe, an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, WC and wash basin.
  • Double bedroom which also has a built-in wardrobe and en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, WC and wash basin.

First floor

  • Two single bedrooms which each have their own en-suite bathroom with bath, showerhead, WC and wash basin.

Outside: There is a large enclosed garden which extends to half an acre providing plenty of space for the little ones to let off steam and adults to relax. Outdoor furniture including a BBQ and sun umbrella. Nearby access on to the public footpath that runs across the bottom of the garden allows you to enjoy lovely walks to Winsford Hill and the Punchbowl straight from the front door!

Additional information: Heating, linen, bed linen and towels are provided and included in the price (please bring beach and dog towels). A travel cot and high chair are available by arrangement at no extra charge. Please note that smoking is not permitted in any part of the premises. Two well behaved dogs are welcome (dogs must be kept downstairs, out of bedrooms and off furniture). A land line phone is available for local and incoming calls as there is only a restricted mobile signal locally. Wi-Fi internet access available. No smoking. Short breaks often available outside of the peak months - please enquire with the owner.
