The Old Malthouse is beautifully situated, with an outlook to rival that of any self catering holiday home in Exmoor National Park. Tucked away in the sleepy Somerset village of Exton, five miles from Dulverton and half a mile from Badgers Holt pub in Bridgetown, the charming cottage sleeps four people in two bedrooms with panoramic views of the Brendon Hills. The owners have recently renovated it to a high standard, lovingly restoring original features like the inglenook fireplace and oak beams and decorating it in a contemporary country style that wouldn't look out of place in a home decor magazine. There's an enclosed garden and off-street parking for two cars, making this an excellent choice for couples, families or friends, including those with dogs.
Exton is one of those villages you could easily miss if you weren't looking for it. It's beside the River Exe with fantastic footpaths and bridleways leading through the Exe Valley. One of these is the long-distance Exe Valley Way, from which you can access the Two Moors Way. The cottage is only four miles from Wimbleball Lake and ten miles from Somerset Coast and the Bristol Channel. The house has secure bike storage for mountain bikers and a handy outdoor tap for keeping it clean.
All necessary amenities can be found in Dulverton, a short drive or scenic cycle from The Old Malthouse. Dulverton is a traditional market town beside the River Barle with a range of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Anything you can't find in Dulverton will be in Tiverton, half an hour south of the cottage, or Minehead, about 25-minutes north.
Many of the guests who stay at The Old Malthouse choose it for the beautiful walks accessible from the door. However, there is plenty to do besides hiking, mountain biking, and horse riding. If you love being outdoors, there is golf and fishing. Beachgoers will enjoy Minehead's sandy shore, pier, and the start of the spectacular South West Coast Path. Dunster Castle, mill and village is a lovely day out. Other guests will enjoy touring Wellhayes Vineyard or the Exmoor Distillery.
The Old Malthouse is comfortable and welcoming in all seasons. The far-reaching rural views make it feel far more isolated than it is, with the A396 making it easy to reach.
