Courtyard Cottage is a beautifully renovated two bedroom holiday cottage sitting in the peaceful North Devon countryside just outside the market town of Barnstaple. With a spacious master bedroom and a second twin room, it is a perfect self-catering retreat for couples, small families or friends. The open plan living space with underfloor heating and a wood burning stove offers a comfortable and cosy place to put up your feet at the end of the day, whilst the four outside seating areas provide plenty of opportunity for alfresco dining during the summer months. Whilst Courtyard Cottage is tucked away in the rolling countryside, it is just a short drive to all the amenities in Barnstaple as well as the wilderness of Exmoor or the salty sea air on the North Devon coast.
The bustling town of Barnstable with it's array of eateries and independent shops is the perfect place to stock up on provisions and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Browse the local produce at the Pannier Market, visit the museum or if you are feeling energetic you can enjoy 30 miles of traffic free cycling or walking along the Tarka Trail. Pick up a picnic from Barnstaple or refuel at one of the many cafes along the way as you meander through wooded valleys, ancient villages and stunning river estuaries.
No holiday to Courtyard Cottage would be complete without visiting the rugged moors of Exmoor. It's just a 20 minute drive to the edge of the National Park where you will find wild ponies, ancient forests and a dramatic coastline. Whether you choose to lace up your walking boots and explore the heather-clad hills, dip your toes in the sea or simply enjoy a traditional cream tea in one of the pretty villages, you cannot fail to be wooed by this mystical landscape. Alternatively, head to one of North Devon's stunning sandy beaches for your fill of sand, sea and surf. The popular surf spots of Woolecombe, Saunton Sands, Croyde and Westward Ho! beach are all less than half an hour away. Join a surf school, hire a board or simply enjoy digging your toes in the warm sand as you settle down in your deckchair for the day. If you want to explore the area further, other local attractions include Exmoor Zoo, RHS Garden Rosemoor and Arlington Court and the National Trust Carriage Museum.
With the choice of beautiful beaches, magical moorland and stunning countryside on your doorstep, it is easy to find a new adventure for each day of your holiday. Alternatively, enjoy a more relaxed pace of life and simply sit back and enjoy your second (or third!) cup of coffee as you admire the beautiful North Devon countryside from your private bedroom terrace.
