Hen House is a beautifully renovated holiday cottage in Gunn, close to Exmoor National Park and only a few miles from Barnstaple and the North Devon Coast. The owners have carefully mixed the warmth and character of the original beams and stone walls with modern comforts and a layout that makes the most of the incredible views. It's a spacious and relaxing retreat for couples and a place where solo travellers can escape from the monotony of daily life into something far more enjoyable.
Barnstaple is a highlight of any holiday in North Devon. It's not merely a place to pick up provisions or grab a takeaway. It's a vibrant community of independent retailers (including those in the Victorian pannier market), cafes, restaurants and pubs. It also has a theatre, multi-screen cinema complex, leisure centre and a museum. The town is set on the banks of the River Taw, and a relaxing walk beside the water is a lovely way to work up an appetite for a picnic. The Tarka Trail goes between Barnstaple and Braunton, offering a mainly-traffic free route for walkers and cyclists. Guests who need to can hire bikes in Barnstaple.
Spend lazy days discovering the gentle delights of Appledore and Instow. Regular sightseeing boat trips to Lundy Island leave from Bideford and Ilfracombe, and a journey on the funicular railway is a pleasure enjoyed by visitors for over 130 years. As well as being close to Exmoor, Hen House is only half an hour from the North Devon coast and beaches like Westward Ho!, Croyde, Woolacombe, and Saunton. It's a fantastic location for anyone who loves swimming, surfing, bodyboarding, or walking along the sand or a dramatic clifftop footpath.
There are no limits when you stay at Hen House. If you want to spend all day walking, cycling, sightseeing, horse riding, playing golf or surfing, no one will stop you. Likewise, if you simply want to move no further than between the sun lounger and the outdoor hot tub, you can do that too. The cottage is one of four superb properties at Accott Manor. It can be booked on its own or with the other holiday homes if you want to go on holiday with friends or family.
