Nutcombe Cottage is a beautiful Grade II listed bank barn conversion set in a secluded valley in North Devon's Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the North Devon Heritage Coast in Combe Martin.
Approached down a quarter of a mile private drive, Nutcombe Cottage is nestled in the valley adjacent to Cider House and Nutcombe Barn at Nutcombe Holiday Cottages. Sleeping up to 4 people, guests can enjoy peace and quiet, stunning south facing views away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, yet be within easy reach of the beautiful cove at Combe Martin, Exmoor National Park, the South West coast path and stunning North Devon beaches, making it the perfect base for couples, walkers or families wanting to explore the area.
Combe Martin is a hidden gem tucked away in a valley below the highest sea cliffs in the country. If you crave a bit of excitement and adventure then the safe cove of Combe Martin offers the perfect spot to have a go at kayaking or paddle-boarding with two equipment hire shops in the village offering supervised lessons during school holidays. The sheltered cove provides great conditions for swimming, and when the tide is out, the large deep rock pools are the perfect habitat for sea anemones, barnacles and crabs. Away from the beach you will find plenty of pubs, restaurants and ice cream parlours but a particular peculiarity is the Pack O Cards pub up the high street, designed on a pack of cards with 52 windows representing the number of cards in a deck, thirteen doors on each of the four floors representing the number of suits and cards in a pack.
The South West Coast Path runs through the village crossing the Hangman Hills that tower above the coastline. If you can manage the walk, the 360 degree views from the top are exceptional. Less than a mile from Nutcombe is Holdstone Down, again offering spectacular views of the rugged North Devon coast and vast landscapes of Exmoor National Park. With over 1000km of footpaths and bridleways over heather covered moorland, along tumbling streams, stunning coastline or wooded valleys, Exmoor has something for everyone and all a short distance from Nutcombe Cottage. Most of the coastline locally is owned and managed by the National Trust so there are plenty of marked walking routes, pubs and cafes along the way, the closest being Heddons Valley just a short drive from the cottage where you will find The Hunters Inn pub beside a lovely woodland walk to a rugged smugglers cove at the bottom.
North Devon has something to offer all year round but a particular favourite are the stunning sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton all a short drive from Nutcombe Cottage. Now part of the North Devon World Surf Reserve, one of only 12 in the world, the beaches of North Devon offer spectacular surf for beginners to experts. With miles of golden sand that are dog friendly all year round (not Croyde), they are the perfect place for family days out, walks with your dog or lazy summer days relaxing on the sand.
There are lots of places to visit during your stay at Nutcombe Cottage. With family attractions of Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, Watermouth Castle, The Big Sheep, The Milky Way all within easy reach the kids will be well catered for. Whilst for adults there is the National Trusts Arlington Court with the National Carriage Museum, gardens of RHS Rosemoor and Marwood Hill Gardens and many others all of which are worth a visit as well as the pretty seaside villages of Lynton & Lynmouth, known as Little Switzerland, with its unique Cliff Railway.
Nutcombe Cottage is one of three beautifully converted barn conversions at Nutcombe Holiday Cottages. You can book any of them individually or as a group catering for up to 14 people in total. See owners website for more information.
