Owl Cottage is a stylish, accessible holiday cottage in East Sussex. With space for six people in three bedrooms, two of which are ensuite, and accommodation all on ground floor level, it's ideal for families, extended families or friends, including wheelchair users. The oak-framed barn is in a quiet rural location with tranquil views from both the house and the private garden. The Five Bells pub in Chailey is less than a mile away, meaning that you can go out for a relaxed pint and a delicious meal just a short drive away.
Chailey is a traditional village near Lewes with, in addition to its pub, a village green and a church dating back to the 13th Century. It's an ideal place to stay for your holiday. Set back from the main road it is a peaceful spot, yet incredibly well connected. The ancient market town of Lewes is just seven miles away. There's a wide choice of shops and eateries, a Norman castle and an excellent local history museum. Visit Anne of Cleves House, book tickets for the opera at Glyndebourne, or pack a picnic to savour in the grounds of Lewes Priory. Depending on when you visit, you can enjoy a day at Plumpton Racecourse or hire a boat to explore the River Ouse.
Literary lovers will appreciate seeing Monk's House and Charleston, both former homes of Virginia Woolf and others in the Bloomsbury set. Drive, or take the train from Lewes to Seaford and walk along the cliffs for stunning views over the English Channel. Brighton is also within easy reach for a day of shopping and sightseeing or a night out. The Sheffield Park and Bluebell Railway is less than three miles from the cottage, and there are half a dozen golf courses in just a small radius. If you're unsure about what to do during your stay, the owners can help tailor an itinerary to suit your tastes and the time you have. They can also assist with booking advance tickets and mobility aids if these are required.
Owl Cottage is just a short drive away from beautiful walks that include a footpath to the Chailey Common Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Walk beside the River Ouse to Newick, or enjoy the parkland and fields of the Hooke Estate. The countryside around Owl Cottage is always looking its best, no matter what season you visit. The owners can recommend a local guide to show you local wildlife and sites of historical interest.
The owners of Owl Cottage have created a calm space where friends and families can enjoy spending time together without the distraction from their everyday lives. The location is ideal for countryside rambles or coastal discovery. It also works well for people in the area to attend a wedding, including bridal parties who want space and privacy to get ready for their special day.
