The Granary is a spacious, yet small country home sleeping six people in three ensuite bedrooms within walking distance of the welcoming Merrie Harriers pub. It is one of four superb holiday rentals on the gated Beechcroft estate in Cowbeech, close to the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within easy reach of the South Downs National Park and the East Sussex coastline. The cottage is available for bookings of two to twelve weeks - a little longer than the usual short break, giving guests ample time to settle in, relax and discover the many attractions and beauty of the area. The Granary is ideal for a long holiday, if you're a writer searching for an inspiring yet peaceful place to create, or someone who needs to work nearby for a short project but doesn't like the idea of an impersonal hotel.
Cowbeech is a quiet village a few miles from Hailsham, where there are three supermarkets, and a variety of other amenities guests may need for their self-catering holiday. It's an area popular with birdwatchers, walkers and cyclists, for the number of way-marked trails and the landscape's diversity. There is a path to suit everyone with everything from chalk downs to meadows, woodlands, and coastal routes. Some favourite local routes include the Cuckoo Trail, paths around Abbots Wood and Friston Forest, and the route around Bewl Water.
There is plenty of choice for day trips. If you can't think of anything more enjoyable than strolling around a beautiful garden, then you should certainly add Great Dixter House and Gardens, Bateman's, Sheffield Park Garden, and Sissinghurst Castle to your itinerary. There are a wealth of stately homes and castles within easy reach, including Herstmonceux, Pevensey, Bodiam and Rye castles. Younger guests will enjoy attractions like the Knockhatch Adventure Park, Druisillas Zoo, and the Paradise Park dinosaur exhibit.
Battle is within half an hour's drive, with some guests of The Granary dedicating several days to exploring 1066 Country. Hastings and Brighton are also top choices for a fun day out, or walk along the coast by Beachy Head and admire the incredible views. Having the coast only 6 miles from The Granary means there are bustling seaside towns, pretty fishing villages and quiet beaches like Norman's Bay, Cooden Beach, and Cuckmere Haven within easy driving distance. Enjoy watersports at Pevensey Bay or the Spray Water Sports Centre at Eastbourne, browse the antique shops in Rye or head to the golden sands of Camber for a relaxing day by the sea. The New Marina at Sovereign Harbour is also a lovely place to while away a few hours in Eastbourne with its shops and eateries.
The Granary is available for bookings all year round. Typical bookings are between 3 nights and two weeks, longer stays may be possible. Please ask the owner.
