The Byre is a charming country holiday cottage on the quiet gated Beechcroft estate in Cowbeech, within walking distance of The Merrie Harriers pub. There's no way the original inhabitants of this former cow barn would recognise it today, with its stylish interiors and spacious gardens. The cottage sleeps four people in two beautiful ensuite bedrooms and is ideal for couples or families with children over the age of five. This is a home-away-from-home for people who don't want a fleeting holiday but would rather immerse themselves in the beautiful East Sussex location on the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for 2 to 12 weeks - a little longer than the usual short break. The Byre is ideal for a long holiday, if you're a writer searching for an inspiring yet peaceful place to create, or someone who needs to work nearby for a short project but doesn't like the idea of an impersonal hotel.
The Byre is one of four superb holiday properties at Beechcroft, on the outskirts of the breathtaking High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's a wonderful place to explore, with its scenic views and proximity to places like Battle and 1066 country, National Trust properties and stately homes or castles like Batemans and Bodiam Castle. There are an abundance of renown gardens to visit. The surrounding area has incredible footpaths leading through a diverse landscape that includes rolling hills, chalk downs, heather-covered heath, and natural coastline, all within a few miles. Cyclists also love the High Weald AONB, the Pevensey levels (a 3,600 hectare biological grade 1 conservation site) and the nearby South Downs National Park, one of 'Britain's Breathing Spaces' for the same reasons.
Days out from The Byre can include walking and bird watching in the Cuckmere Valley Nature Reserve, admiring the red-and-white striped lighthouse and the sheer drop (from a distance!) of the cliffs and Beachy Head, or visiting beautiful gardens like those at Pashley Manor, Sissinghurst Castle, Chartwell, and Sheffield Park. Admire the majesty of Herstmonceux Castle, wander the shops and the seafront at Eastbourne or Brighton, and spend a few hours in Hastings, the place where the course of Britain's history changed forever. The area around Beechcroft has an excellent variety of places to eat and drink, so you can give yourself a break from cooking if you choose.
The coast is only 6 miles from The Byre with bustling seaside towns, pretty fishing villages and quiet beaches like Norman's Bay, Cooden Beach, and Cuckmere Haven. Enjoy watersports at Pevensey Bay or the Spray Water Sports Centre at Eastbourne or head to the golden sands of Camber for a relaxing day by the sea. The New Marina at Sovereign Harbour is also a lovely place to while away a few hours in Eastbourne with its shops and eateries.
Typical minimum lets are 3 nights to two weeks, longer breaks may be possible. Please contact the owner for information.
