About Bibleham

Bibleham is an East Sussex holiday rental so good even the most imaginative dreams fall short. The 15th-century cottage nestles on the edge of Mayfield amongst glorious countryside with panoramic High Weald views that will have you throwing open your bedroom curtains with delight. Bibleham is wonderfully spacious, sleeping ten people in four bedrooms with two acres of grounds. It's ideal for a family holiday, a relaxed hen weekend, or a reunion with friends and extended family. Guests love exploring the area on foot or by car, yet are equally happy to stay at the house, making the most of the games room, gardens and swimming pool.

Mayfield may only be 60 miles from London, but it's worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the nation's capital. Settled by the Saxons, the village has a medieval church dedicated to St Dunstan, a house (now a school) visited by Elizabeth I, and links to wool smuggling. More recently, Mayfield was a Times Village of the Year and is home to the fantastic Middle House restaurant, cafes and pubs. Shops, restaurants and other amenities are 11 miles north in Royal Tunbridge Wells where the mainline train takes you to London Charing Cross in an hour.

Local attractions include Bateman's, the magnificent Jacobean home of Rudyard Kipling now in the care of National Trust. Staying with the literary theme, you can also see Pound Cottage in Mayfield, where Pamela Travers created her Mary Poppins books. Golf and fishing are popular pastimes, and the owners have provided a map of local scenic walks. You're only 45 minutes from the coast, so a day at the beach is also simple to arrange and enjoy.

Location (East Sussex)

Accommodation Comprises:

Bibleham is set back from a quiet lane and is blissfully peaceful. Centuries of hospitality have seeped into its fabric, providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Downstairs:

  • An inglenook fireplace and oak beams in the sitting room leave no doubt of the cottage's age. Cosy sofas invite you to curl up with a drink and a book, watch a film, or chat. The owners have mixed antique furniture with modern comforts, making the cottage a home-from-home rather than a historic showpiece.
  • There's a second TV with a Firestick and a DVD player in the snug.
  • Challenge your family and friends to play darts or table tennis in the separate games room.
  • A large table and warm oak panelling make the dining room perfect for everything from lazy breakfasts to Sunday roasts and celebratory dinners.
  • Modern appliances keep the kitchen up to date, so catering for a whole house is easy. Adjacent to the kitchen, a utility room houses larder storage and a fridge/freezer.
  • The downstairs cloakroom is a handy feature in a big house.

Upstairs:

  • Bedrooms One and Two are lovely double rooms with king-sized beds and proper storage.
  • Bedroom Three is a large twin with two single beds and two trundle beds.
  • Bedroom Four is another big twin room with two single beds.
  • Two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath, are upstairs.

Outside: Two acres of grounds feature a lawn with croquet and football goals, a barbecue area with seating, and a pool which is open for use between May and September. You can arrange to use the sauna, and there's also a pub-sized pool table in the pool house. A Scandinavian camping pod is a fun place for kids to "camp" and lets you stargaze comfortably in cold weather.

Additional Information: Utilities, bed linen and bath towels are included. Smoking is not permitted.
