About Well House

Well House sleeps up to thirteen guests and is a chocolate box pretty Grade II listed holiday cottage that oozes historic charm from its quaint thatched roof, right down to its inglenook and Aga. Topped off by a hot tub in the garden, and a highly desirable location close to the famous arch of Durdle Door, and Lulworth Cove on Dorset's World Heritage Jurassic Coast, this delightful dog-friendly retreat is perfect for a family holiday or get together with friends.

Stable Cottage (sleeping four) is the owner's adjoining holiday cottage allowing large parties of up to seventeen to be accommodated and enjoy everything this beautiful part of the South West has to offer.

The cottages sit in Chaldon Herring, a pretty Dorset village just two miles from the coast and within easy driving distance of popular attractions including the Tank Museum in Bovington, Monkey World, Poole with its busy harbour, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, the historic market town of Wareham and the village of Wool. There is an excellent village pub (the Sailors Return) which serves a pint of exceptionally good ale and locally produced food - all at a reasonable price, making eating out both a pleasure and affordable.

The surrounding area has fantastic walks with the South West Coastal Path being directly accessible from the front door offering miles of walking with wonderful seascapes along the way. Walk to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove for a dip (under two hours) or take the car, a blanket and a picnic and make a day of it (a five minute drive and only three miles away).

With heaps of historic character and traditional furnishings, perfectly blended with modern conveniences, plus a highly desirable holiday location, this delightful self-catering cottage offers all the right ingredients for a relaxing and memorable holiday in Dorset at any time of the year.

Location (Dorset)

Well House was formerly the residence of Elizabeth Muntz, an eminent Sculptress who's artistic flair still shines throughout the property today. The cottage sits along a quiet no-through road that eventually becomes a track leading onto the coastal path where you can walk to the cliffs and beyond to explore the coastline. One of the oldest properties in the village, Well House is only a short stroll to the Sailor's Return, allowing you to cook in or stroll out for supper.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground floor

  • Two double bedrooms.
  • There is also an additional single bedroom on the ground floor which provides access to one of the doubles.
  • Well equipped kitchen with solid floor, wooden units, a lovely AGA for cooking (as well as an electric BBQ grill, microwave and Gas burner for woks and saucepans), dishwasher, fridge, freezer and washing machine.
  • Off the kitchen is the dining/living room with plenty of space to eat and relax - an incredibly social area.
  • Fabulous vaulted sitting room with inglenook housing a wood burning stove, large HD Smart television (including FreeSat), DVD player and sound system
  • Shower room with WC and wash basin.

First floor

  • Master king-size bedroom.
  • Double bedroom.
  • Single bedroom with trundle bed that pulls out to form a twin or double allowing flexible sleeping.
  • Bathroom with WC and wash basin.

Annex - thatched and pretty just like the cottage, this welcoming space within the grounds accommodates two guests.

  • Living room with vaulted ceiling, super-king size bed, television and kitchen area with facilities (including cooler fridge) for making your morning tea and coffee.
  • Shower room with WC and wash basin.

Outside: Guests have a big garden with plenty of space to play, relax and BBQ including outside seating, log cabin, BBQ area and a hot tub to relax your aches away at the end of the day. There is plenty of parking for up to seven vehicles.

Additional information: Dogs welcome (a small charge applies). Central heating, a log burner and Aga keep the cottage warm all year round. WiFi internet access throughout. Short breaks available by arrangement with the owner. Prices include heating, bed linen, electricity and towels.
