Welcome to Little Madeira, our beachfront retreat on Lyme Regis' Marine Parade that has been family owned and enjoyed for 45 years.
The seafront cottage provides generous self-catering accommodation for couples with the additional option of allowing occupancy for an extra guest. It has 1 dedicated master bedroom, a large living room with a sofa bed, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen/dining room. The house is attractively and comfortably furnished, having been completely renovated for holiday rental in 2020. The kitchen is new (2020), as are all beds and sofas.
Marine Parade, formerly known as “The Walk”, is a stretch of thoroughfare that connects the lower part of Lyme Regis (starting at Cobb Gate and the town clock) with the harbour and its celebrated Cobb. On Cobb Gate stood the Assembly Rooms, the popular meeting place where Jane Austen danced during her visit to Lyme in 1804.
We have a lock-up garage for the exclusive and complimentary use of our guests. This facility is a pleasant, 8-minute stroll from the seafront property, along the river and almost entirely on the flat.
In recent years, the calibre and quantity of dining options in Lyme Regis have increased impressively.
The Parade is on two levels for much of its length, the lower one being known as the cart road, as it was along this route that goods were once carried between ships in the harbour and Cobb Gate.
Things To Do
Lyme Regis offers an abundance of attractions for all the family. Our top things to do include:
Fossil Hunting
Inspired by Lyme's own Mary Anning - the pioneer of fossil hunting along the Jurassic coast, fossil hunting on both Charmouth Beach and Monmouth Beach has been popular for many generations. Most importantly, check the Tide Times, take goggles, a hammer and FOLLOW ALL SAFETY NOTICES AND GUIDELINES!
Lyme Regis Museum
“A remarkable museum, a gem” Sir David Attenborough
This newly refurbished museum was built on the site of Mary Anning’s home in the heart of the town at the meeting point of Devon and Dorset coastline. A modern museum with a purpose-built Fine Foundation Learning Centre “the perfect space for families and children”
Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium
Situated on the far point of the harbour just below the midpoint of the Cobb and in the old Harbourmaster’s building, this charming little two room aquarium displays a variety of local sea life. Visitors can hand feed mullet, hold a star fish, get up and close with lobsters and crabs and so much more.
Dinosaurland Fossil Museum
This is a traditional museum with more than 12.000 specimens on permanent display. Housed in a Grade 1 listed building, once the Congregational Church in Coombe Street
The Town Mill.
A working watermill in Millside alongside the River Lim. “The Creative Heart of Lyme Regis” was rescued from dereliction over the last 10 years by local volunteers. …”nestling around a cobbled courtyard , these restored mills buildings, house a working flour watermill, art galleries, artists studios, a cafe, a silversmith, a seamstress, a pottery, a bakery, a deli, a design agency and microbrewery”
Lyme Sculpture Trail
This has been called “the perfect outdoor gallery”. Discover and enjoy this collection of contemporary sculptures by local artists perched above the beach situated in the Langmoor and Lister Gardens in the heart of Lyme Regis.
In addition to the above attractions, there is also:
Swimming in Lyme Bay
Mackeral and Deep Sea Fishing Trips
Sightseeing Boat Trips
Banksy "Origami Crane" on the River Lim
Walking along The Cobb harbour (featured in the filming of Jane Austen's Persuasion and John Fowles' The French Lieutenant's Woman)
Rockpooling
Fish and Chips / Barbecue on the Beach

The Bedroom
Up the stairs and under the eaves, is a wonderfully secluded master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. The view from the smaller upper window shows Lyme Bay from a different perspective. The very comfortable bed (6') can be arranged either as a superking or as twin singles
The Living Room
The main living room is on the first floor. Its windows, one bowed, survey the whole of the Bay. Originally built as a library, it has an additional space that used to be the connection to its senior neighbour next door. Family and friends have always used this room as an additional bedroom, so we have added a sofa bed.
Eating
The kitchen and dining area is a great space for entertaining. The newly fitted and well equipped kitchen will be enjoyed by enthusiastic cooks. The dining area has seen many a happy family gathering over the decades.
The comfortable window seats offer a place to watch boats, passers by and the ever-changing sea scapes in front of the Marine Parade.
Parking
We have a lock-up garage for the exclusive and complimentary use of our guests. This facility is a pleasant, 8-minute stroll from the seafront property, along the river and almost entirely on the flat.
