About Lavender Cottage

Lavender Cottage is in the oldest part of Lyme Regis, within walking distance of the beach, cafes, shops and pubs like the Ship Inn and Pilot Boat. It's handy for everything yet, despite its location in the heart of fantastic Georgian town, has the atmosphere of a peaceful seaside haven due in part to its sunny courtyard garden. The cottage's layout suits couples, families or friends, with space for four people to stay in two bedrooms.

Lyme Regis has been a favourite summer holiday destination for centuries but this coastal gem, known as "The Pearl of Dorset" has plenty to offer visitors all year round. It is one of the best places on the entire Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for finding fossils. While you can fossick on your own, many visitors recommend booking a guided fossil walk with a local expert through the Lyme Regis Museum. Front Beach is incredibly family-friendly with a sandy beach and lifeguards in the summer, while Monmouth Beach is a mix of sand and shingle and where you'll find an enormous slab of limestone with lots of ammonites. The first complete Ichthyosaur and Plesiosaur skeletons were found here by Mary Anning in the early 1800s - who knows what you might find!

The harbour in Lyme Regis is called The Cobb. It's a beautiful spot to sit and watch the boats bobbing around. The Cobb was the backdrop for a dramatic scene in Jane Austen's later novel, "Persuasion", and also inspired John Fowles when writing "The French Lieutenant's Woman". Walk along Victoria Pier to The Marine Aquarium, visit the Philpot Museum, or spend a happy few hours in Dinosaurland which is only steps from Lavender Cottage.

Lavender Cottage is the perfect base for exploring Dorset. Day trips can include sightseeing on the English Riviera, the stretch of coast that runs from Torquay to Brixham, including Paignton and attractions like Paignton Zoo, Kents Caven Prehistoric Caves, and Babbacombe Model Village. Hire a bike, go for a ride, walk along the South West Coast Path, go sailing and paddle-boarding, or spend a leisurely few hours browsing Lyme Regis's shops and boutiques. The cottage's self-catering facilities are excellent, but Lavender Cottage's central location means you also have a fantastic choice of restaurants and takeaways within easy reach.
