The Cottage dates back to the 17th Century and provides a welcoming retreat for two to four guests at any time of the year.
Built of warm, honey coloured local stone, the cottage is located in an enviable position on a quiet footpath which leads down to Chesil Beach (approximately twenty minutes by foot) and the famous Swannery. Nestling in a peaceful setting, guests can enjoy fantastic views of St Catherine's Chapel, St Nicholas Church, the Old Tithe Barn/children's Farm and pond and a picturesque panorama of Abbotsbury village.
The beautiful unspoilt village is just a few minutes' walk away and has two public houses, tearooms, a post office, farm shop, general stores, craft shops and a woodworking shop. Abbotsbury is well known for the Sub Tropical Gardens. It provides a good base from which to explore places of interest including Weymouth, Bridport and Dorchester - all within a nine mile radius and accessible by car and also bus (although the service is infrequent).
Abbotsbury sits within the coastal hills of South Dorset and both the surrounding countryside and village are rich in historic and geological interest. The coastline is of special Scientific Interest and has earned World Heritage status.
Earthworks and ancient burial grounds abound and the Maiden Castle, Maumbury Rings and Eggardon Hill Fort are just a short drive away, as are Salisbury Cathedral and Sherbourne Abbey. A little further afield you have Winchester Cathedral, Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Avebury and the famous Cerne Abbas Giant - a figure cut in the turf possibly of Romano-British origin.
The birth place of the poet and novelist Thomas Hardy and the home of T.E. Lawrence (better known as "Lawrence of Arabia") are within easy reach and for lovers of architecture, a visit to Athelhampton House (one of the finest medieval houses in England) is a must.
Ideally positioned, the cottage has much to offer those who are looking to simply relax and unwind and is also an ideal base from which to explore the areas many attractions.
