The Cottage dates back to the 17th Century and provides a welcoming retreat for two to four guests at any time of the year.
Built of honey coloured stone from the local area, The Cottage enjoys an enviable position on a quiet little footpath which leads down to Chesil Beach (approximately twenty minutes by foot) and the famous Abbotsbury Swannery. Nestling in a peaceful setting, guests can enjoy fantastic views over St Catherine's Chapel, St Nicholas Church, the Old Tithe Barn/children's Farm and pond and a picturesque panorama of Abbotsbury village.
The beautiful unspoilt village is just a short walk away (literally a few minutes!) and has two public houses, tearooms, post office, farm shop, general stores, shops selling crafts and a woodworking shop. Abbotsbury is much loved for its Sub Tropical Gardens. It provides a good base from which to explore places of interest including the seaside town of Weymouth, the market town of Bridport and the county town of Dorchester - all less than ten miles away and accessible by car and also bus (although the service is infrequent).
Abbotsbury sits within South Dorset's rolling coastal hills with the surrounding countryside and village rich in historic and geological interest. The coastline is of special Scientific Interest and has World Heritage status.
Earthworks and ancient burial grounds abound and the Maiden Castle, Maumbury Rings and Eggardon Hill Fort are a short car ride away, as are Salisbury Cathedral and Sherbourne Abbey. Slightly further afield you have Winchester Cathedral, Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Avebury and the intriguing Cerne Abbas Giant - a figure cut in the turf possibly of Romano-British origin.
Thomas Hardy's birth place and the home of T.E. Lawrence (better known as "Lawrence of Arabia") are within easy reach and for lovers of architecture, a visit to Athelhampton House (one of England's most loved medieval houses) is a must.
Ideally positioned, the cottage has much to offer those who are looking to simply relax and unwind and is also an ideal base from which to explore the areas many attractions.

In order to protect our guests as much as possible from the corona virus we are only taking bookings every other week in spite of the loss of revenue. This will give ample time for any potential virus to die off before we even go in to clean, sterilise and change linen.
