River View enjoys a fantastic location in Stoborough on the Isle of Purbeck, nestled between Dorset’s wonderful countryside and coast. The cottage easily sleeps six guests, with the potential for a further two children and a baby if required, so it's great for families or groups of friends. The house is on the owner’s property and is peaceful and private. It is only a few minute’s walk to the King’s Arms - a popular traditional thatched pub with a tasty menu.
Stoborough is a small but friendly community. It is less than a mile from Wareham, a wonderful market town on the banks of the River Frome, with a good array of amenities including shops for provisions and almost thirty different cafes, pubs and restaurants. Wareham has some of the most complete Saxon town walls in Britain and a walk around them takes about an hour. You can find out more about the history of Wareham and the surrounding area, including the connection to the writer, T. E. Lawrence, at the town’s museum.
Purbeck is a peninsula that is surrounded by water on three sides which means there are lots of fantastic beaches. At two miles, the longest beach is Studland, but there is also Swanage, Kimmeridge Beach and Chapman’s Pool, the romantically named Dancing Ledge. Winspit Bay is great for kids as it has caves and rockpools to explore. Brownsea Island off the coast of Poole Harbour is a fantastic day out not only for its beautiful beach, but for the population of red squirrels that live happily in the woodland. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are nearby, as is Corfe Castle and beach. Whether you like birdwatching, fishing, coasteering or surfing, there is no need to stay indoors on the Isle of Purbeck.
River View is central to so many Dorset attractions. Bovington Tank Museum has an excellent, well curated displays of tanks dating from before WWI, while Monkey World provides a fun day for all ages. T. E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia, lived in Wareham and his house, Clouds Hill, is maintained by the National Trust. You can also see an effigy of the writer in St Martin on the Walls Church in Wareham. Poole is a twenty minute drive from the property, with a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, and Bournemouth is only a further ten minutes. Wareham has a mainline train station to make it easy to get around if you don’t want to drive.
The Isle of Purbeck is beautiful and unspoiled, with gorgeous beaches that remain relatively uncrowded even in the height of summer. River View is a comfortable base for families and groups of friends who want to see as much of it as possible.
