Elworth Farmhouse offers a luxurious holiday cottage which is full of original character and nestles amidst the beautiful rolling countryside of Thomas Hardy's Wessex. It benefits from being within easy reach of the spectacular World Heritage Coast and whilst in a peaceful location, it is only two miles from the ancient village of Abbotsbury.
The holiday cottage is located within the pretty hamlet of Elworth which was first mentioned in the Domesday Book and today provides the perfect base for exploring the many local amenities and tourist attractions. This tiny hamlet is a walker's paradise with footpaths in all directions around surrounding farmland. The Dorset Coastal Path is also just a few minutes walk away, where you can enjoy the views over the beautiful rolling countryside and seascape beyond which extends from Lulworth Bay across to Lyme Bay.
Wildlife is plentiful and you may well see deer, fox, badger, buzzard, kestrel, herons, bats and owls around the hamlet with rarer birds such as wild geese, red-kite and ducks occasionally passing by.
Abbotsbury is an ancient village which is steeped in history and still owned by the descendants of the Earl's of Ilchester/Strangways who originally purchased the village and surrounding lands after the dissolution of the monastery in 1539 from Henry V111. Today it still holds much original charm and provides antique and craft shops, an old coaching inn, a historic Tithe Barn and of course you can enjoy a cream tea!
For those who want to explore the area there are many lovely places to visit within easy reach: Dorchester offering interesting shops, restaurants and a wealth archaeological sites and museums; breakthtaking Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door on the World Heritage Coast; The popular sea-port of Weymouth which offers long sandy beaches and numerous attractions for all ages.
There truly is something for everyone from simply relaxing to sailing and for those feeling more adventurous, why not enjoy a Diving exploration at Portland.
