Homer Barn - Mary Tavy, Tavistock, Devon, Dartmoor, England - Sleeps 2
Homer Barn is a lovely little bolt-hole for two and perfect for couples looking to escape to the country. Offering a taste of 'The Good Life', the barn sits alongside Cholwell Brook in a tranquil position nestling amongst glorious rolling Devonshire countryside within the Dartmoor National Park.
A true oasis of calm, Homer Barn is nicely tucked away on small holding where the owners live in the village of Mary Tavy, a former mining village with a traditional inn.
A perfect choice for those who enjoy being outdoors, Homer Barn has a lovely cobbled terrace where you can sit with a good book or glass of wine and relax alongside the babbling brook. There are fabulous opportunities for walkers with a nice mix of moorland and countryside walks, as well as opportunities for golf, horse riding, canoeing/kayaking and fishing. Bring your bike and explore the Tarka Trail, Granite Way or Drakes Trail, or the leafy Devon lanes which are glorious when ablaze with spring flowers.
Dartmoor is peppered with pretty little villages with country inns for lazy leisurely lunches, as well as award winning restaurants serving the finest of local produce.
The historic market town of Tavistock is a short car ride away and has a good choice of shops for provisions, as well as a weekly market held on a Friday in the Pannier Market. Once a fortnight there is also the renowned farmers market which is well worth a visit when on.
For day trips out, you are spoilt for choice having access to both the North and South coasts of Devon and also Cornwall. Drive across the moor to Okehampton where you will find Devon's largest castle (or at least the remains of it!); or visit Lydford Gorge with its spectacular White Lady Waterfall. Iconic Brentor Church, Portsmouth with its historic dockyard, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project are also a must to visit.
