Hartwell sleeps up to ten guests and was formerly a Devonshire farmhouse which has now been converted into beautifully presented self-catering accommodation. Built during the mid 19th century, Hartwell sits in an idyllic location near to Sydenham Damerel village within easy reach of the market town of Tavistock which is located on the River Tavy.
Nestling amongst West Devon's rolling countryside, within an AONB, this delightful holiday home provides an ideal base for exploring the areas many attractions with the Dartmoor National Park just ten minutes away by car and Cornwall only five. Whatever the time of year, Hartwell provides the perfect venue for friends or family to enjoy a holiday together or celebrate a special occasion.
Sleeping is flexible with five bedrooms and there is a spacious kitchen at the heart of the house with a farmhouse table where you can sit and chat about the days adventures over supper in front of the warming oil fired Rayburn. Two sitting rooms (and a sofa in the entrance area) provide plenty of places to enjoy a quiet moment or social evening with the middle sitting room offering a cosy environment in front of the wood burner and the family room (which also has a wood burner) offering traditional entertainment with a piano, guitars and board games, plus a large television (forty inches) and Blu-ray player along with a 1960's vintage radio with modern bluetooth connection.
The outside living area is also every bit as appealing during the warmer months with some 1.5 acres of grounds to enjoy. A real haven for wildlife, regular visitors include rabbits, foxes and plenty of birds (including owls, pheasants and buzzards), along with cattle and horses grazing in the surrounding fields which add to the country setting. There are lovely walks along footpaths accessible from the farmhouse or alternatively, enjoy lazy days by the outdoor heated pool (this is available between the months of May to October and sits in an enclosed area with garden furniture for relaxing).
For those who enjoy eating out, The Royal Inn at Horsebridge is just twenty minutes on foot (one mile away) and there are a good range of pubs, restaurants and shops in Tavistock (four miles). Also nearby is the Tamar Trails Centre (just ten minutes away) which offers plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts including trails for walkers and cyclists, geocaching, canoeing, camp building, archery, zip wires and tree surfing to name just a few. There are also opportunities for golf, pony trekking, fishing, sailing, gentle Canadian style canoeing and clay pigeon shooting in and around the area.
The area has a host of attractions for all ages and energy levels including: Dartmoor National Park (ten minutes by car) with its pretty villages, famous ponies, miles of walks and intriguing Tors; Lydford Gorge (owned by the National Trust) and also Lydford Castle (fifteen minutes away); the award winning attraction of Morwellham Quay (under fifteen minutes) where you can step back in time and experience a taste of Victorian life; Cotehele, a magnificent NT owned country house sitting in a picturesque elevated position above the River Taymar (twenty minutes);Buckland Abbey which is also NT owned (twenty minutes) and the Miniature Pony Centre which is sure to be a hit with the children and adults alike (forty minutes drive). There are also plenty of beaches within under an hours drive and world famous attractions such as The Eden Project.

Outside: The farmhouse sits in almost an acre and a half of grounds which guests have the use of (there is a footpath that crosses the land but is infrequently used). To the back of the property is a small enclosed garden. There is also a large garden to the front which is partially enclosed (but not dog or toddler proof!) with a secret area where you can enjoy a quiet moment in the hammock by the pond (children will need to be supervised at all times by the pond) or a BBQ (furniture provided along with a chiminea to keep you warm). A south facing patio area with outdoor furniture affords a sunny aspect and is adjacent to the kitchen - the perfect place for alfresco dining. The garage acts as a games room containing table tennis and a selection of outdoor games for children and adults to enjoy and the enclosed outdoor heated swimming pool (available between the months of May and October) and trampoline are sure to be a hit.
Additional information: Friday is the normal changeover day but alternatives may be available upon request - please contact the owner. Three night minimum short breaks available (charged at 70% of the normal rental). Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Additional cleaning and maid service by arrangement. Well behaved dogs welcome by arrangement but must be kept downstairs, off furniture and not left unattended. Wi-Fi internet access available. The farmhouse has partial central heating to keep the chill off and there are two wood burners and a Rayburn. A telephone is available if needed and mobile signals are patchy (but better in the garden). Travel cot available if required. A local shop for provisions is just two miles from Hartwell.
