Higher Blackabroom is on the edge of the moor, mid-way between Okehampton and Tavistock with the Fox and Hounds pub within walking distance. It's spacious enough to sleep up to seven people in three bedrooms with far-reaching views over the surrounding fields from the cottage. Families and friends will find the house a welcome and comfortable base for exploring.
Dartmoor is somewhere to go when you've had enough of being around people. When you want to escape noise and pollution and the sense of being hemmed in by buildings, the seemingly endless landscape and big skies will restore your soul. Dartmoor National Park's border is only around half a mile from Higher Blackabroom, giving you easy access to walks and a huge choice of places to go. Dartmoor is famous for its unique granite tors that act as both landmarks and climbing spots. Sourton Tor, Great Links Tor and Yes Tor are all relatively easy to reach on foot, and you're likely to spot an abundance of wildlife. For cyclists, there are a vast network of opportunities including the 27-mile Moorland Link. Bike hire is available locally.
Lydford Gorge is two miles from the house. Managed by the National Trust, it is home to the magnificent 30-metre high Whitelady Waterfall. The walk around Lydford Gorge is highly recommended in any season as it always looks breathtaking.
If you would like a day at the seaside, then the beaches of the North Devon coast are under an hour's drive, as are Boscastle, Tintagel and the castle where the legendary King Arthur was born. RHS Rosemoor and the Eden Project are two other favourite options for day trips.
