Cobweb is an attractive holiday cottage, or romantic getaway, in a truly wonderful riverside location, providing comfortable self-catering accommodation for two (kingsize double). Sitting alongside the River Tamar, gateway to Cornwall, Cobweb Cottage is 2 miles from the Devon village of Bere Alston. The historic market town of Tavistock is 8 miles away, offering a good choice of shops, eateries, pannier market, arts venues and sports facilities.
Cobweb Cottage is 6 miles from awesome Dartmoor National Park, 365 square miles perfect for walking, cycling, climbing or just being there. This moorland wilderness is dotted with pretty villages and traditional pubs. Myriad activities can be enjoyed in this unfettered expanse that is studded with craggy tors -- celebrated in art and literature -- and outcrops of granite aged 280 million years. A haven for nature, as well as cute 'wild' ponies, Dartmoor National Park reveals features of geological, historical or cultural interest, and always frees the spirit.
Cobweb Cottage, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest, is 20 minutes by train and 30 minutes by car to Plymouth city centre. Just 2.5 miles away is Bere Ferrers station, a postcard rail stop in itself, on the Tamar Valley Line. A stone's throw away are lovely locations enjoyed by small-screen viewers of Beyond Paradise (TV spin-off of Death in Paradise).
On your doorstep you can explore the tranquil riverside scenery, historic buildings, World Heritage mining sites and famous gardens of the less-discovered Tamar valley and Bere peninsula. Alternatively, a 65-minute drive can take you to the globally-renowned Eden Project or the spectacular north Cornwall coast, with its beautiful sandy beaches and fabulous surf. Or you could visit the quaint fishing villages in south-east Cornwall or the much-loved coast and countryside of the South Hams of Devon. Golf can be played at Tavistock (two 18-hole courses) or on the onetime championship course at St Mellion (25 minutes away).
Guests step out onto a slate patio, plus have their own use of a sitting/picnic area (secret garden) with a stunning outlook onto the river, also with lounger, table and chairs (barbecue and picnic rug provided). The Old Plough Inn, Bere Ferrers, is a good friendly pub three miles from the cottage. Waterside Bere Ferrers has a fine church, and a public tennis court. Bere Alston has a post office, pub, garage, two mini-markets (Co-op and Premier), butcher’s, chemist, hairdresser, fish-and-chip shop, railway station, bus stop and an occasional bistro cafe. Weir Quay Boatyard, 600 yards downstream, has a popular cafe open Thursday through Sunday.
