About Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher is an idyllic cottage in a gorgeous rural location close to Dartmoor National Park. The cottage is ideal for couples, especially those who love spending time outdoors walking, climbing, mountain biking, playing golf, kayaking or one of a myriad of other fun activities. It is on a former farm on the outskirts of Okehampton, on a quiet road with no passing traffic. Shops, cafes, pubs and other amenities are all less than two miles away, and easy to reach on foot or by bike if you don't want to drive. The one-bedroom cottage sleeps two people.

Okehampton is frequently referred to as the Gateway to Dartmoor, as it sits on the northern border of the national park. It is a pretty town with a regular market every Tuesday and Saturday in the Red Lion Yard, a castle that pre-dates the Domesday Book, and footpaths leading through woodland and along the West Okement River. Local businesses offer bike hire as well as guided tours and tuition to help visitors to make the most of their stay. Waymarked trails include the Two Castle Trail, Tarka Trail, Granite Way, and the West Devon Way.

There are a good choice of attractions locally including National Trust properties such as Finch Foundry, Castle Drogo, and Lydford Gorge. Adventure Okehampton offers outdoor games and activities that include archery, rock climbing and abseiling, and canoeing. Dartmoor Prison Museum is an eye-opening look into the past (and strong incentive to stay on the straight and narrow!) or you could visit the Quince Honey Farm for fresh local honey and the chance to learn about beekeeping and candle making.

Being in the geographical heart of Devon means that beaches on both the north and the south coasts are less than an hour's drive away. Westward Ho! is perfect for swimming in the summer and windswept walks in autumn and winter, or sit back in your deckchair on one of the beaches of the beautiful English Riviera.

The owners of Dreamcatcher have a second self-catering property, Moonseeker, that sleeps four people in two bedrooms. Each cottage is private and self-contained and can be booked individually or together to sleep up to six guests. Please see the owner's website for information.

Location (Dartmoor)

Accommodation Comprises:

There has been a farm on the site of Webber Hill Farm since at least Tudor times, with the owners able to trace life here back to 1570. Dreamcatcher dates from around 1840 and was formerly a barn where calves were weaned. It has been brought back to life with a careful restoration to offer a high standard of accommodation without losing the original charm and character of the beautiful stone building.

Ground Floor:

  • Open-plan living room, dining room and kitchen with underfloor heating. A vaulted ceiling is a fantastic architectural feature, with smooth white walls providing a lovely backdrop to the oak beams and mezzanine level.
  • Relax in front of the log burner on a chilly night, or throw open the glass doors in the summer to invite the warm weather inside. The living room has a 43-inch TV with Freesat channels and a DVD player.
  • Everything you need for self-catering is in the well-equipped kitchen which features bespoke crafted oak cupboards and granite worktops, as well as a double-oven electric range cooker and a dishwasher.
  • Contemporary shower room with a spacious shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Bedroom with a super-kingsized bed that can be separated into two 3ft-single beds if preferred. There is space for a travel cot.

Mezzanine:

  • A lovely oak staircase leads to a mezzanine level where there is a smaller living room/snug where guests can read, do a little yoga, or have a snooze.

Outside: Dreamcatcher has an enclosed private garden which is safe for children and pets. There is a barbecue and seating for meals in the summer sunshine. Guests can park their car next to the cottage.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, bed linen and towels are all included, as is the first basket of logs for the wood-burner. Three or more well-behaved dogs are welcome with prior agreement and for a small surcharge of £25 per dog per stay. Short breaks are available, usually from November to March, starting on any day of the week, depending on availability. Smoking is not permitted.
